Just how small, exactly? TDB reports that the next Corvette's European-style V8 could measure in at just over 3.0 liters, using an overhead-cam setup and dry sump oil system. With the aid of turbocharging, unnamed GM sources expect that this engine will deliver "in excess of 400 horsepower," or about 125 hp per liter. What's more, the smaller V8 could be of the extremely high-revving nature, with TDB citing that engine revs could handle up to 10,000 RPM.

However, traditional V8 enthusiasts need not worry, as the story states that a full range of engines will be available, including the classic larger displacement units that have traditionally found a home in the Corvette.

Most ricers I know won't buy a Vet for several reasons and the biggest one is it's made by GM. Most ricers are Asian and they like Japanese made cars that have better reliability than what GM builds, most of them are Honda drivers with cars that have over 100k on the odometers. Vets are reliable yes but the smaller made GM stuff is crap compared to Honda, Subaru, and Nissan.

oh so true.

I'm not a big fan of ricers, mainly because the people who drive them would rather spend more money on fiberglass body parts and lights rather than actual engine modification. Well...except to put in a shorter muffler so that the car can sound fast.

I agree. The subi's and S2000's and all that are fine, its the ricers that screw up nice cars that i dont like.

You can thank my dad, with him, my brother and I grew up around the classic muscle cars, my dad had everything from a Dodge Challenger to a Ford Mustang. He now has a Factory Five Cobra. :beerbang:

The era of beefy muscle cars is nearing the end sadly. And what was it that made those muscle cars to attractive in the first place? To me, it was because I grew up in that era and the shear power the big motors had. But of course, the weight of those cars and the size was quite different then too. I would much rather hear the sound of a rumbling V8 than a whining V6 or suped up 4 banger. However, my son has told me on many occasions that his little Honda V6 will out power and out run my aging V8's. Its a generational thing. Maybe one of these days, gas will be cheap enough again that kids will fall in love with those big engines again.

My dad grew up in the era of muscle cars, and his step dad (my grandpa...or step grandpa) owned a repair shop, so every Summer, my dad would work on cars.

My brother gotten the love of muscle cars from my dad. He raced go-karts till High School, and then he worked in a shop with his friend. However, my brother only owned Ford Mustangs. He's a 'Stang man.

As for me, while I can see the appeal, I am not a car guy, I am an aircraft guy, and the Mustang I'd want in my garage is the P-51D Mustang!

Even the pilots today say that was the best fighter ever made. BTW I think the best paint job of the Mustang has to be the 352d Fighter Group known as "The Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney"
