CHICAGO: Man arrested for plotting school massacre; 2 dead, 15 wounded in weekend violence

I'd rather be dropped off in the middle of Syria than spend a weekend in Chicago.

Two people are dead and at least 15 more were wounded as a result of weekend violence across the city, including an Englewood neighborhood man shot to death by police who believed he was armed with a gun.

Angry residents of the neighborhood threw bottles and rocks at officers in protest after 23-year-old Jamaal Moore was shot to death by an officer who believed he saw Moore reach for a gun as he fought with police, police said.

Moore, who police suspect was involved in an armed robbery of a truck driver, as well as a spate of robberies of trucks as they stopped in traffic on the South Side, was shot by police as he reached for a flashlight while fighting with the officer who was trying to arrest him.

Police on Saturday seized 47 guns and ammunition from the home of a northwest Indiana man who a day earlier had threatened to set his wife on fire after she fell asleep and kill as many people as he could at a nearby elementary school, investigators said.

Von Meyer, 60, of the 9300 block of West 133rd Avenue was arrested Saturday on felony charges of intimidation and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and resisting law enforcement.

Many of the guns found hidden throughout the two-story historic home were collector’s items, according to Cedar Lake Interim Police Chief Gerald H. Smith, with an estimated value of over $100,000.
