Danny "Chocolate" Myers was the Grand Marshall of the last night of racing at the famed Bowman Gray Stadium here in Winston Salem tonight. Chocolate is from WS and sold peanuts at the stadium when he was a kid and watched his father race there along with his uncle against the likes of the Petty's, Allison's and a regular Who's Who in NASCAR. What was rather unusual about this particular night is that his two cousins, Burt and Jason Myers, two hot shot drivers, weren't racing because they are boycotting the track for a number of reasons. It was great to see Chocolate out there and of course, the crowd cheered him loudly.

Now that our local season is over for that track, we'll be heading out to other tracks for the touring series. In two weeks, they will be racing at Martinsville with those Yankees coming down to compete with our local boys. Not much of a competition though as the northern boys have much more money invested in their cars. Can't wait for the night race there in Martinsville. :beerbang:

Buck, i was talking to a crew memeber on Mike Stefaniks' #16 team the other day and we were tlking about how much the Modifieds have changed in the last 30 years. He was telling how much these guys on the Whelen tour spend per year, it is upwards of a million dollars over the course of a season! Unreal, i can remember when it was considered unheard of if you had a back up car and an enclosed trailer. Now they all have at least 1 back up car, a full hauler like the Cup guys, and 5 or 6 steady guys on their team. I miss the good old days....sigh.

I saw some great racing last night. Big block modified's on dirt. Fantastic. As good or better than ever. Series change names and owners . But the racers keep racing.

Mopar, I work with a guy who along with his father, field two of these cars. BTW, they were one and two last night. Our boys are just tickled to death if they can find someone to buy them tires for the night. As for the Whelen Southern Tour, few of the teams have back up cars, but there are a couple of them with big enough sponsors that allow that.
