Next weekend's season finale at Homestead will be the last race as a Richard Childress Racing gas man for Danny "Chocolate" Myers, team officials confirmed Sunday. Myers will retire at the end of the season, but will remain employed at RCR. Myers gained fame as Dale Earnhardt's gas man over a stretch in which Earnhardt won 83 races. Myers remained when Kevin Harvick took over Earnhardt's team last season, but moved to Robby Gordon's #31 Chevy this season after two of the RCR teams swapped crew chiefs. Myers has worked as a color commentator and appeared in television commercials and movies. He is the eldest son of the late Bobby Myers, a pioneer of NASCAR who was killed while driving in the Southern 500 at Darlington in 1957.

I always liked Danny...he's gonna be missed. Maybe we will see him in the booth.....

Been hearing for a few weeks now that Danny was gonna retire, reckon it's true.

Hear tell that he feels that the years have cost him too much in the time it takes to go over the wall with those fuel cans. Could be other factors, but until Danny says so let's leave it at that.

Good luck to Danny in whatever role he takes.

He's been doing this for how long...20 years?? Man, that's alot of cans......

I heard he has been hurting too. I guess it takes a toll on the back....

Who can forget Chocolate Myers.

A shame to see him finally hang it up, but I hope he enjoys his retirement.

missed seeing him jump the wall with the goodwrench crew........now we arent going to see him jump the wall anymore.

good luck with retirement......you deserve it

I once met him during a weekend at searspoint about 10 years ago. I was at the same hotel as the crew and sunday morning very early as I was leaving to get to the track I ran into him in the parking lot. shook his hand and wished them good luck that day.
He was a very nice and very normal guy.
He will be missed.

Three beer chugs for chocolate

Well, now the word is he might stay......I guess he said that he was going to retire after he got mad one day and that turned into a rumor.

Can't imagine that happening.....;)

Being new to racing as in 3 years, who knew a gas man drew such respect.

That was Dale Earnhardt's gas man, and a big part of many wins and championships including 4 pit crew championships.
