Chrissy Wallace signed a contract with Germain Racing on Wednesday to run for rookie honors in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2009. She will run an additional six races this season, starting with the Milwaukee Mile on June 20.

"I'm extremely excited," Wallace said. "This is a big deal for us. When I saw my name on that contract, I almost couldn't believe it. But I'm thrilled about this opportunity."

Wallace, 19, made her debut in the No. 03 Geico Tundra at Martinsville Speedway on March 29. Although she qualified 35th, Wallace raced to an 18th-place finish.

Wallace said after her run the Germains realized, "Hey, she can actually drive. We need to do something with her. If we don't get on the bandwagon, someone else is going to sign her."

It was a pro-active move for Germain Racing, which is likely to pay large dividends for both the team and Toyota.

Good move by Germain. We know they're a damn competitive team, she's got Tony on her side. Look out guys.

From the comments on the FOX Sports link:

It just annoys me a bit to hear how we HAVE TO HAVE women and we HAVE TO HAVE minorities and that they should get special treatment to make them successful at anything. Look at the vast majority of running backs in the NFL. Why isn’t anyone saying we need to groom more white men or Hispanic men at that position? What about sprinters in Track and Field? I think it diminishes people’s accomplishments if they do make it. I know that in my chosen profession I want to be seen as a success because of my hard work and talent, not because I got a break because of my skin color. Look at Danica, is she successful in Indy because she has been given every advantage to do so by everyone from Indy to the Media or is she successful because she is a good race car driver? I think that is why there is so much hostility towards Danica. Rightly or wrongly people in general think she is getting an unfair advantage and that her accomplishments are being overblown by the media.
I have read several articles on this very site that said so many great things about Danica and how she is so great for the sport and how her first win was historic. All well and good, but the one thing that was never mentioned in the articles, not even once, was that she was a great race car driver. Make no mistake. Indy cars are not NASCAR cars or trucks. I really do hope Chrissy can make it in NASCAR and be a success on her own abilities. Chrissy’s job is going to be much tougher than Danica’s though. Indy cars with all their technology practically drive themselves around the track while the cars and trucks of NASCAR require more actual pure driving skills and muscle. Just ask the open wheelers who came over to NASCAR in the last couple of years.

This is flat out THE MOST INANE STATEMENT I have ever read or heard.

Yep, that's it. Women have gotten special treatment in auto racing.

No Chit....totally insane statement

I LOVE the remarks by these hicks, sitting in front of their keyboards and monitors, about "typical journalist."

I guess I'm one of those typical journalists. I've talked to those women racers. I've interviewed them one-on-one. These hicks don't know chit about Lee Spencer, about what Danica Patrick, Chrissy Wallace and the like have to go through to succeed, or about racing in general.

Well, I feel a "SPECIAL COMMENT" coming on.

Be on the lookout, www.racingforthewin.com, and I'll post later.

:)

thats what i hate about alot of these 'writers' is they are only seeing the outcome of thousands of hours of work when they see a new person on the track. You dont hear much about danica racing before indy. I didnt know chrissy wallace was driving lm in north carolina until she was interviewed on the prelude last year.

I am one of the people interested in the work it took to get to the level these drivers are at not the final outcome. Unfortunatly the average fan could care less.

Andy everyone that disagrees with you is not a hick . You can put me down as agreeing with the bulk of the text from Fox Sports . Do you relize until Montegi Danica had never won a race since she was in go Karts ? If you watched the race from Montegi you relize Danica never ran above 5th all day and mostly around 7th. Because of the race in Long Beach they only started 18 cars and only 13 were running at the end . Andretti Green Racing through smart pit statagy got a car that was running in the back half of the field into victory lane nothing more and nothing less . I dont know how closely you follow the IRL but when they let one driver put power steering on her car because her arms are not strong enough to steer it late in a race its pretty hard to argue that there is not some favortisim .

In the case of Chrissy how many drivers do you know gut a shot at a NCTS ride based on two limited late model wins on a short track ?

Both these drivers got their rides because thier female and because we live in a politically correct / affirmative action type climate so dont pee on my back and tell me its raining out .

blah blah blah blah blah blah

Hey Joe,
WAKE UP!!!! There were 7 or 8 races than Danica could've won last year. She was very much a factor last year. One time, she got taken out by Dan Wheldon. She's also lost plenty of races to pit strategy. Indianapolis ring a bell?

Danica won a race. Suck it up and deal with it. She hadn't won since karting - but she was also competitive every single week in the minor leagues.

You know Jimmie Johnson had only won one Busch Series race, on pit strategy, before getting his Winston Cup ride?

Like basscatcher said, we didn't see them growing up. Any team owner knows that the best car/driver doesn't always win. Strategy is a part of it. Maybe, in the minors, there were many races Danica could've won but lost to strategy. Perhaps the same is said with Chrissy.

The number of wins isn't everything. Lake Speed won a race, Ted Musgrave never did in Winston Cup. Ricky Craven was a factor many many times and only won twice. Johnny Benson? Shane Hmiel in Trucks? Stuart Kirby in ARCA?

As far as the power-steering, I haven't heard this gibberish, and I follow racing very closely. So, until you provide links, it's bs and I'm throwing the bs flag.

:bsflag:

Both these drivers got their rides because thier female and because we live in a politically correct / affirmative action type climate so dont pee on my back and tell me its raining out .

Don't worry about me peeing on you and telling you it's raining. After those statements, I'm not sure I'd donate the urine if you were on fire. :D

I'd say ANY driver winning at Hickory at 18 is impressive.

Your words are:

I agree totally that women do get more of a chance in racing if they are very marketable aka:Danica /Chrissy Wallace. If they were women that were not pretty, shapely, sexy, then they would not have a chance no matter their level of talent. from what i read and saw, Danica got the luck on her side, but a win is a win. I did not know she was allowed to put power steering on her car, i think that is bogus , all drivers should have it, if in fact this is true.

So why don't Gabi DiCarlo and Lindsey King have Sprint Cup rides?

Don't worry. I would piss on you if you were on fire. :)

Gosh Andy, for someone who claims to be a conservative, you are about as PC as any liberal that I've ever met. It's pretty easy for you to sit in front of your computer and spout all the misserable hatred for ESPN and anything else that you so much dislike. Think about something for a change before you type your spew. Anytime a woman gets a ride in any kind of auto racing, it's because someone sees something in them and are willing to take a chance, but the first time they see that the woman isn't making progress, they let them go. It's no secret that many in racing, whether they are male or female, get preferential treatment because of who they are. Those days are quickly going away, but they still are happening. The biggest problem for anyone in racing, and especially for women, is that cost of the sport at the highest level. Companies that put in millions of dollars look hard and fast at where they put their money and taking a chance is not part of their scheme. Chrissy Wallace could very well be the next Danica, or for that matter, the next Jeff Gordon, but I can tell you for sure, she won't get the chance to prove it like Danica or Jeff did.

In today's society, minorities of all sorts are given a shot, and NASCAR is going into overtime with that. I don't have a problem with it because I'm not one of those who are trying to become involved, but I can see both sides of the picture. It's a shame that drivers, no matter what their sex or color are, aren't give the same chance, but it's a fact and until we get at least 10 or more of any minority, it's not going to change. Not while the money that is being expended is what it is today.

:XXROFL: at the first part. Me = politically correct. BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! :XXROFL:

Tony Stewart obviously sees something in Chrissy Wallace, because he's been fully committed to her. And, that's a good ally to have in the sport.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: Chrissy will become the first woman to win in NASCAR.

Danica was given variable ratio steering (power) last year in what the IRL called an experiment because she complained the cars were to hard for her to steer . All teams have the system available to them this year after complaining to the IRL most have opted not to use it .

Andy as i said Danica never won a single race above go carts untill Saturday and i am not sure i can think of anyone else in a top division you could say that about .

Accomplishments by the other drivers you mentioned

Jimmie Johnson won in many divisions before he got to nascar but probally is best known for being one of the winningist drivers and two time National Champion of CORR .

Ted Musgrave won over 100 stock car races around the mid west and several ASA wins .

Johnny Benson was former track champion at Berlin speedway and ASA national champion with wins that probally number over 100 before he got a nascar ride .

Ricky Craven had won 14 late model races and the track championship at Unity Speedway by the time he was 16 he went on to win the ACT championship and many many other races before he got a shot at nascar .

Lake Speed was perhaps the greatest go cart racer America has ever produced and unlike Danica that won a few reginal races Speed won the IKF national championships a record 6 times and the World Championships in 1978 beating out a guy named Ayrton Senna who you may have heard of . Speed then ran a year of late models collecting 6 wins before starting his nascar career .

Shane Hmeil had 2 Goodys Dash series wins and finished 5th in points in 2001 he also had 2 wins in a late models during 2001 . Personally i think Shane was one of the best raw tallents in the last 10 years unfortunately he decided to blow it all away because he wanted to smoke pot more then race nascar. I doubt there are many people that dont think Shane would have been a multi race winner by this point if he could have stayed off the ganja .

I wish Chrissy all the luck in the world but i think she got this ride because she is a female and her last name is Wallace .

As I said, it's bs until you provide a link.

I bolded the more accurate statement.

But, you're yappin' about wins. Chrissy Wallace won. What more do you want? She won, in stock cars, at Hickory.

She also had a very solid debut at Martinsville. Not explosive, but solid.

Wikipedia said:
Danica Patrick began go-karting in 1992 at Sugar River Raceway outside of Brodhead, Wisconsin and went on to win several national championships. She moved to England at the age of 16 in order to advance her racing career. She has also earned a GED. Focusing primarily on road racing, Patrick raced in several developmental open-wheel series while in Europe, including Formula Ford and Formula Vauxhall. Patrick earned a second-place finish in England's extremely competitive Formula Ford Festival, the highest-ever finish by either a woman or an American in the event.

In 2002, Patrick signed a multi-year deal to race for the team of Bobby Rahal. After making several starts in the Barber Dodge Pro Series, she moved to the Toyota Atlantic Championship for 2003. Driving for Rahal Letterman Racing with sponsorship from Argent, Patrick achieved moderate success in the Toyota Atlantic series. During her time in Atlantics, she won one pole and was a consistent podium finisher (top three); however, she never won a race. In 2004, Patrick finished third in the Championship.

Resumé looks better than most. Yes, she didn't win, BUT she was consistent. Consistency = good.

I'll be honest about Shane Hmiel, I lost A LOT of interest in the Nationwide Series after he got kicked out. He was entertaining, moreso than Shrub.

Ricky Craven won a track championship. Cool, I'll hire the next track champion at Potomac Speedway and put him in my car. Oh, wait, that means nothing since it's just a tractor-engine racetrack.

Chrissy's going to win in Spit Cup. NHRA has Ashley Force, IHRA has Laurie Cannister (who's kicking ass and taking names over there right now :beerbang:), IRL has Danica Patrick, and NASCAR will have Chrissy Wallace.

There are a lot of GREAT race car drivers, male or female, who don't win in Sprint Cup. But, saying the only reason Danica and Chrissy got rides is because they're women is very unfair.

This was very played down last year by the IRL and even this report is wrong since she did use it at Detroit since i saw it on her car with my own eyes .

STEERING ASSIST

The race in which Danica Patrick had a variable-assist steering rack last year was Mid-Ohio, not Detroit as some in the Indy Racing League thought.

Patrick finished second at Detroit with a conventional steering rack. The variable-ratio rack, which makes turning the wheels easier, is now available to all drivers.

you will have to add the htp beginng to this link since this site wont let my post a url untill i have 15 posts //www2.tbo.com/content/2008/apr/06/sp-garage-pass-pedestrian-traffic/?sports-autoracing

In the case of Ricky Craven i do think a 16 yr old winning 14 features and the track championship in late models was a pretty good sign of a excellent up and coming driver .

You mean she finished 2nd at Detroit, without it?

Flawed argument since she used it on, MAYBE, two tracks. And, I DON'T see it saying anywhere that those other drivers aren't using it.

Nice try there joeblow.

As i informed you that statement is incorrect since she did run power steering at Detroit . I will see if i can find the pic of it after i get to 15 posts .

That's great. But now, 16 year-olds are expected to be winning in the touring ranks.

Things have changed Joe. If you're not in ARCA, Trucks, Nationwide or Spit Cup by the time you're 18-21, you're career's over. The drivers are getting younger and younger. By that argument, winning races and track championships at age 16 is to be expected nowadays. Oh wait, hasn't Megan Reteniour won a track championship? That settles it, Megan Reteniour's going to be a NASCAR Superstar. Oh wait, you've blown her off as a nobody.

Well, the link you provided says she ran it at Mid-Ohio, NOT Detroit.

So, is that entire article now bs? Or is it just that one part's bs?

Selective. Heh, I feel like I'm arguing with a liberal now.

I don't see how this thread turned into a Danica bashing thread.

Chrissy Wallace has proven she can drive. And, Danica won a race.

Suck it up there Joe, these girls can drive. Get back to me after Chrissy and Alli win in Spitcup. :beerbang:

Andy i am not sure if your really this argumentative or just kidding around but i will give you the benifit of the doubt for now . You didnt want to believe the IRL gave Danica power steering as i said now you dont want to believe me that she used it at all the street races after she got it . I will dig through my personal pics tomorrow and post it hopefully you wont accuse me of photo shopping of it .

As for Megan Reteniour i did not blow her off i just said i would like to see her for a season in a full size car and not something that is powered by a lawn mower engine .That new series she is in "Sprint Cup" had only 9 cars show up to their second race and i see she ran last according to the results . I dont know if she broke or crashed but she was scored last out of 9

Reitenour Wins Ice Breaker 350

Sixteen year old Megan Reitenour, development driver for Nesbitt Racing Enterprises, won the Ice Breaker 350 at Tri County Speedway in Hudson, NC, on March 8, 2008.

Reitenour qualified in the seventh position of a fourteen car field and wasted no time working her way towards the front. On lap 23 she was involved in a collision causing her to restart towards the back of the field. Reitenour strategically worked her way back through the field and gained the lead on lap 97. She went on to claim the victory in the inaugural Super Cap Stock Car Series (SCSCS) event.

Reitenour thanked the sponsor’s of her race, Purple, Hampton Inn (Morganton, NC), McCallister Precision Marketing Team, her car owner, Martin Nesbitt and her race team for working so hard and providing her with a great race car.

Reitenour said, “This was a great start to hopefully a successful season. I’m really looking forward to our next race on April 12, at Newport Speedway in Newport, Tennessee.”

Sure doesn't look like a lawn mower to me.

Andy, put your money where you're mouth is... if Chrissy wins in Sprint (your version of Spit) Cup, I'll eat your hat, any where, any time. If on the other hand, she doesn't even get a rid in the Sprint Cup Series, or what ever it is called at the time, you eat me hat. Deal? If not, take this argument and go to the garage. You just continue to say the same prejudice things over and over. I don't care how great she is, if she doesn't get a ride in the Cup series, she'll never win, and that my friend is your losing bet. Now, what year are we going to agree on that she gets a ride in the top NASCAR series?

Hey Joe !!!! Andy is argumentative. Andy has an opinion on everything and complains about everything leading one to believe him to be a most unhappy fella he gripes so much. You'll see.

Meantime, Andy uses this forum as a medium to imitate some of the more disreputable talk show hosts who attract audiences by doing a verbal tap dance on them. Like he is doing with you.

If you stick around, you'll find there are many on this forum who are genuinely nice, sensible, diplomatic people. Honest.
I don't qualify but most of the others do. :D although you gotta watch Buckaroo.;)

You woulda thunk that with the tornado destroying the building Andy works in, giving him all this spare time to sit back with his feet up, that he'd be a little bit more accomodating. But if anything he's worse...

I happen to agree that Chrissy got this ride based on gender and last name.

So, for sh!ts, giggles and general whiplash - Andy, pick any current Sprint Cup driver, with a full-time ride, omit Busch/Nationwide and Sprint series records and compare him to her. I would suffice to say the current Cup driver has to have a more impressive resume`.

Also, I am seriously worried that somewhere down the line that Tony's 'support' of Chrissy may be horribly similar to Evernham's 'support' of Erin Crocker. ;) Let's hope that's not the case.

Hopefully Chrissy is not/would not be dating a married man. (owner) Big difference.
I think she'll be fine. I can't stand Stewart, but that doesn't keep me from wishing Chrissy well.

I don't care what the driver's name is, or who they know --- somewhere, at some time, every driver was "given" something to help them get started.

Chrissy has to prove herself, just as any other driver would. The truck/car doesn't know what sex the driver is, and doesn't care. Hopefully, she will be "given" some time to prove that she can do the job. If she can't, well, at least she tried.

OK my two cents on this deal:

I believe that ride's should be earned fullout and not given because of beauty or skin color or whatever. Lets first observe that there have been many race drivers in many series who drove for long periods of time and never won a single race sometimes in good equipment. And especialy in the IndyCar series where the season is only about 16 to 18 races long. Seasons where maybe two or three drivers win the bulk of the events, it's tough for sure. So lets celebrate that fact that Danica was able to pull through, to the haters, it's her fourth full season in this series why is this such a huge deal, i'd say she's overdue. The potential for victory was there back in 05 I think sometimes though she just didn't push herself hard enough, maybe backing off alot of times because IRL racing is alot of times fast and furious competition with drivers finishing side by side inches from eachother. Rick Mears once said that the risk had to be worth the gain. That is true, I know if I were an IRL driver the only time Al Unser Jr's words "There comes a time when living doesn't matter, money doesn't matter, all that matters is winning!" would come into my head is if I were battling for the lead at Indianapolis. In that case, it's go or blow either win on Sunday or mourn on Monday. For Danica Patrick, until this past weekend at Motegi, the risk had never been worth the gain but at Motegi with potential victory finaly insight, she pushed herself to reach up and grab it. No it's not fair that she gets to use power steering and the other drivers don't if that is the case but to that look at how much it's helped her, she has not been dominating the series because of that, it still took 50 tries to get that first checker. Is NASCAR behind, drivers like Steve Kinser, Juan Montoya, Paul Tracy, AJ Allmendinger, & Dario have all proven that NASCAR racecars & trucks are alot tougher to drive than they look. Doe's Patrick deserve a shot, sure like all these other crossovers give her a quality car to race in some NASCAR Touring series modified events for starters & lets see how she doe's then work her way up from there but don't just throw her directly in a Busch or Cup car or even a NCTS or ARCA car for that matter. It's not fair to the owners or the sponsors. Sponsors pay alot of money for the opportunity to see their name on a NASCAR hood leading to the possibility of getting a car into victorylane at the track and in their respective businesses with the fans. They deserve to have the best drivers available not the most politicaly correct or whatever. As far as all the women in NHRA, it is my opinion that there is no comparison to IRL & NASCAR racing. You hold onto the steering wheel for 5 to 7 seconds and it's over. In these other series, 500, 400, and even 200 miles is a long time to sit in one confined space turning left and right and shifting constantly every lap for two to three hours, it's definitely not the same. Finaly I'd like to say goodluck to Chrissy Wallace because for sure she'll need it. I've watched this chick race since she was a small girl racing in the infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway and if there was ever a female with the potential to finaly knock down that barrier in NASCAR then this one is it. Take lessons learned from Erin Crockers mistakes and be all you can. Also being in Germain equipment won't hurt either seeing as how Todd Bodine is always strong... P.S. A girl won the Indy Lights event at Long Beach this past weekend as well...
