hes at the top of the B list anyonehave predictions for the future?

Well, he is "toast" this year and I don't expect him to do as well next year. :)

i was at a race way here in minnesota but i cant recall where and my friends mom knows him personally so i got to hang with him after, and some peoples trailers are crazy he hads 2 huge plasma screen tvs on just the left side! it cool..

...possible Busch (Nationwide) contender for next year if he chooses to run more...???
Sure he's having a lucky year, normally, under the old point system, (which is what the media keeps comparing Gordon to) he'd be 781 points out of 1st.
I'm not impressed.

That is "one" fault with the chase. It makes average drivers look good sometimes.

Won't argue with that one. Most people will remember who won the championship, not who was the best during all of the season. Bitter pill.... party of one here....at the moment. ;)

I think Clint can only improve from here. He's young and he has a good future ahead of him.

No you are not a party of one.

I know, but I didn't want to speak for others or it might scare all the non JG fans out of here. LOL ;)

You do not need be a JGordon fan to see the inequity of the chase. When a teeam effort, luck and driver ability can have ten races left and be leading the series by over three hundred points then have that lead reduced to five points from the closest competitor, well, something is unfair.

To put greater emphasis on the last ten races to stimulate interest and excitement delivers a false sense of the sport. No wonder television viewers are down. Why sped an afternoon watching races in July when it all boils down to ten races at the end of the season and even then the viewers and stands are not full.

Some people might find this exciting but being from the old school where instant gratification is not the norm, would much rather see a team and driver who show true grit all season to be the real champions.

For all I care, it could even be Tony Stewart or Kevin Harvick. If they can do it all year they deserve to be champion, not just because they pulled off a coup in ten races. :bounce:

He's 28 so maybe not as young as you might think. And with all of the "youth" movement going on he's practically ancient. As long as he doesn't get a big head and is able to stay in the car he's got now he'll be OK. But, if he ever goes somewhere else he could very well be in trouble.
For example, I fear for Biffle. I like him but he's not doing so well and could be the odd man out if Roush ever has to get down to 4 teams.

Ha, I actually like Tony Stewart. Yeah, I know I'm weird. LOL

Some people have said if Big E was still around, they never would have pulled out this farce of a play-off system. He would have given them a BIG piece of his mind!!!!!!!

Yeah, Biffle hasn't been doing so well. How old is he anyway? I have an old t-shirt when he used to drive a National Guard car. My daughter did some fitness test at the track to get it for me. :)

Other than Kyle Bush, who is really rockin' the tracks who is really young? I'm sure you can name them for me, but the only ones I can think of at the moment are in the Busch or other series. Steven W. sure is good at wrecking as are some of the others.

I heard he will run the Nationwide full time next year. Going for the Championship.
As for the Nextel Cup Champ, I consider it winning a tourny. Its a 10 race tournement with 12 teams.

Does anybody have the data (or seen for that matter) for what the finals would have looked like in the past if the chase had always been the norm? For instance would any of the champs be different? But more than that, would the 2-10 spots have differed a lot?

The comment of Clint being an average driver who got lucky just made me wonder if a 10th place finisher in say 1989 might have come in 2nd....

Surely someone has done the math.
