Closest chase?

Frankly, I'm tired of them touting "the closest chase in history." A, the chase is only been around a few years, so it's not like the history is that long. Second, it's not the closest chase in history!!!

2004, 2rd place was only 21 points back. While first and second are three points closer than they were in '04, the champioship itself had three people within 21 point. That, I'd say, is closer than and should therefore be the benchmark.

I agree with you. It's scary to think though that Jimmie almost won that championship that year and that he could have been going for his 6th straight if he did.
 
I hear what you're saying...the media can be like a badger when they get their teeth sunk into something.

What's even worse is when they pick a few drivers and harp on about them endlessly for most of the year.

It's no wonder teams are having sponsor trouble - if you're not in a wreck, you're not getin' any air time - except of course for 29 seconds of qualifying.

On the bright side, it's nice to see a few drivers have a legitimate shot at the cup in Miami :D
