Some radio exercise - but reports of shots fired. President was in the area. DC Police were aware of this and didn't tell anyone.

I have no doubt the Coast Guard fired shots. They usually do that when a boat wont obey orders.

They say there was no boat or shots fired.

Either way, they owe the public an apology, not a technical explanation, and they owe it NOW.

Coast Guard is on now.

"There was no reason to alert the people because this is low profile."

No apologies, just more bull.

USCG: We're going to review this, and we will be transparent.

I'll believe it when I see it.

USCG: Radio exercise was performed on open frequency. They announce that it's a drill before-hand. During special events, we set up safety zones. None were set up today.

USCG: "I am not issuing an apology" because "this was a normal training exercise."

The military works and trains 24/7/365, they don't take breaks. Not in training and not in conflicts.

If CNN, who ran the story first, had double checked ala Walter Cronkite instead of rushing to be first on the air because that's all that counts today truth-be-dammmed this would have been a non-story.

CG owes nobody a apology, CNN however,,,,,
