Should be a good game tonight, Boston College and Virginia Tech, I hope I'm not disapointed!

OK, last night's game wasn't bad, even with the bad weather.
There are a few good games this weekend, including the 2007 version of The World's Largest Outdoor ****tail Party :D Go Georgia!

Whoa, will BC upend LSU's attempt to go for the title again this year. Probably not as the BCS poll that pits the two teams that will vie for the championship, still has it's flaws and even if BC finishes the season without a loss, they could still end up out of the title game.

And now, who is paying attention to the ACC for football? Last year it was Wake Forest and this year, BC is doing it's best to go at least to the Orange Bowl. And get this, BC has a new coach this year with the old coach doing his best to win at NC State. (You State fans, Tony Hanes is probably pulling what hair he has left out, still thinking that they are much better than the Deacs.)

Tenn beating South Carolina at halftime 21 - 0. GO VOLS

Spurrier not happy.

Well at least State beat the Hoos, 29-24. That's 2 in a row.
ThugU is next...

how bout them buckeyes??? :bounce:

Who'd they play? Oh, now I remember. :)

BP, that was quite a game. Didn't get to hear the last half, but caught it on the ESPN site. And how about those Deacs putting a whoopin' on those Tar Heels.

Donald Bowens stepped up big, starting in place of Dunlap who got hurt last week. Over 200 yards receiving. The true freshman Vermiglio kept Chris Long in check. Which is something I didn't think he could do. I saw a lot of good things out of a lot of sophomores and freshmen. The future is looking brighter.
As to the holes, that was nice to see...

For the most part, no changes in the top ten in the BCS. South Florida dropped out but the top 9 stayed the same. Will OSU play LSU or BC? If things continue as they have been, with none of those teams losing, I will bet that the BCS will leap frog LSU over BC for the title game, leaving the Golden Eagles fit to be tied.

I hate to say it but who has BC played. 4 nobodies. At least OSU has Wazzou on their schedule and LSU played VT. I'm sure BC thought ND would be better competition when they were scheduled but that went south in a hurry.
I still think that until the NCAA starts deciding the schedules on a year by year basis, where the top teams play the other top teams, you really will never have a true champion regardless of whether or not they continue with the BCS or go to some play off system. LSU playing LaTech, yeah I can't wait...

C'mon bp, those schedules are worked out years in advance. Who's to know what even LSU will be in two or three years? The only thing that those who vote on can base their vote on is both popularity and reputation. OSU and LSU have been in the top bunch the last few years, but BC is a relative newcomer. The BCS pole is based a lot on both of those factors and the schedules of their opponents, which is also based on those two factors. If there were a true playoff, it wouldn't matter and all of the other divisions of the NCAA have a play off, but not the top division. It's all based on nothing but, wait, let's look at the chystal ball. The end results have always been something of a problem with the fans and will continue to be as long as they use the current or old system. They thought the BCS would stop the complaining, but when you use a computer to ask what team is better, not looking only at the win/loss column, you are always going to have a gripe. If LSU is actually better than BC, then why does BC continually get more "votes" than LSU? That's because the whole pole thing is a popularity contest. Let's face it, LSU could possibly be better than BC, but then again, it could be that LSU is better than OSU. Let's see, could OU be better than ASU? How about those Ducks? But wait, we are forgetting those lowly Jayhawks. One way or another, those Kansas kids are going to show their strength because they will probably end up playing OU for the Big 12 title. If OU loses, they will fade to obscurity, but if KU wins, who the hell cares? Again, a win for them will give them a top five shot going into the bowl games, but it sure won't give them a shot at the top spot. If you look at the total picture, the who NCAA is a total mess, something akin to NASCAR.

Four of the top eight teams in this week's BCS standings - Boston College, Oregon, Arizona State and Kansas - were unranked in preseason. Arizona State and Kansas were not even among the 49 teams that received votes in the USA Today coaches' preseason poll. Duke got a vote, but not Kansas or ASU.

Is this a popularity contest or what?

Duke always gets 1 vote. Its Spurrier, a former Duke coach. I don't know who's nose he's tweaking but he always votes for Duke.

And, Buck I agree about the schedules. That's why I said the NCAA needs to make the schedules year by year. BB doesn't make schedules years in advance and they play over twice as many games. If the top teams were playing at least 2 other top teams OOC then we'd have a better idea as to who was the best. Make it a Regional battle. What does LaTech gain playing LSU, besides the check? Or, Duke playing VT?
But, the way the system is set up you gain nothing and lose everything playing a tough schedule while others are playing the Holy Sisters of the Blind. If LSU played VT and maybe a Big East team, WVU or another top team (tho UConn is 2nd in the BE, go figure) and OSU played Washington and a Big 12, OU or Tejas, and so on then the other 2 games could be gimmees. We'd know how they would stack up better and you don't have a Hawaii or Boise State running around crying that they were cheated.
Some games matter, some don't. But if you don't play the tough teams don't cry if you get left out.

BP, so what are we to do? There are a multitude of division one schools that are judged on their play with other division I schools an then they are poled. In the beginning, App State didn't gain anything on the Div I pole because they beat the #5 team, but that #5 team sure took a dive. Look now at that team that lost and you'll see that they are once again in the top 25 of division I schools. Note that the team that beat them aren't listed in the list, all the way down to the bottom. If Ohio State were to lose to Winston Salem State University, which is by the way, a new div I school in college football, would WSSU gain, or would OSU lose? Of course, OSU would lose it's top rank and would probably fall well beyond LSU in the BCS pole. The BCS pole was put in place to appease those fans that have wanted a playoff for Divsion I NACAA football, but it's really dont nothing to correct the old popularity contest to see who's number one. Until they actually put in a playoff system that will include more than the top two or three teams that are "voted" on, nothing will change and there will be forever a cloud on the title of National Champion in the NCAA football series. Just think, before BCS, there were several "co-champs" and since BCS, there have been at least one "co-champ". So what's the difference? Wanna leave it up to the vote, I say let the OU Sooners be the national champs year in and year out. :)

Duke always gets 1 vote. Its Spurrier, a former Duke coach. I don't know who's nose he's tweaking but he always votes for Duke.

He always gives Duke a vote because that's where he started his coaching career.....its his way of saying thanks.

Notre Dame/Navy game is going into the 3OT, it's been a good game.

LSU/Alabama is close so far, hopefully 'Bama can pull off the upset.

The "game of the day" Arizona State and Oregon starts in a few minutes.

I love this time of year :)

Fergy, I was rootin' for Bama. So sorry they lost. How about that ASU/Oregon game? Will BC win? At least BP is happy with his Wolfpups taking it to the "U". :) Looks like so far my Sooners are on their way to a win.

Big question, will Nebraska's coach have a job this time tomorrow? Ouch! What a spanking KU gave them.

The Buckeyes had me a little worried in the third quarter today. But then they just started running the ball down the Badgers throats and ran off 28 unanswered points to win easily.

My FSU Seminoles were beating BC the last time I checked. I have mixed feelings there. I love FSU, but I wouldn't mind seeing Ohio State face BC in the championship game just because from what I've seen OSU would roll them easily.

Don't count your chickens just yet. There are still lots of games before the season ends and if you believe that Michigan is going to be a pushover, well, if I were you, I would hope that the team doesn't think that.

If Kansas continues as they are and end up playing OU for the Big 12 title and beats them, the BCS just could rank them up there too. And let's not forget about those Ducks. And lastly, LSU is still there. But I'm with you in that BC would probably be the easiest of those teams to beat in the big game.

How about this for a quarterback stat. Miami's QB Freeman was 1 for 14, and that one catch was for 84 yards and a TD. But NC State caught more passes from Freeman than did his own receivers as they snagged 3. I listened to that game and an understatement from one of the guys in the booth was "When you have more interceptions than you have receptions, you know your day isn't going well." :)

Local announcers had a few good ones, my favorite was "Kirby couldn't throw the ball into the ocean if he had to." ;) That game was pathetic. Ugh! years when "your team" is horrible are difficult.

FSU beating BC was a surprise...I always like the upset.

Yeah...pathetic badgers;) Luckey for you PJ Hill was not there.

Well my team has now won 4 in a row. Bringing us to 5-5. One more game to get bowl eligible. Weak Forest and the Univ. of Murderland are next. There's still hope... :)

Hmmm, Weak Forest huh! I guess you thought that last year as well did you? Your school, that is the largest school in the entire state, finally were able to break even, but how...beating the lowly Tarheels. Nice win there bub. Little Weak Forest, with a total enrollment of just over 6,500, just might give your behemoth Wolf pups a tough fight next week. And to think that you Wolfies are willing to chew up and spit out a bunch of turtles from Maryland. Gawd, no wonder the world thinks you bullies are so terrible. Anyone want to root for the underdog?

Oh, how do you think your little puppies would fair against my lowly Sooners?

Pull up a chair, have a beer and let's chew the fat about it all. And, did you catch those Buckeyes losing to and bunch of runnin' Indians?
