Need to vent a little...

A couple weeks ago, our HD cable box stopped recognizing HD channels. After a couple days of trying this and that with Comcast's tech people, They said the box needed to be replaced. A few days later a replacement box arrived. I hooked it up and everything worked. And then I sent them back the old box. So far, really not an issue other than the fact that I didn't have any HD coverage for the beginning of the Olympics.

Move forward 2 weeks and low and behold our bill has fees for a new box, initiation, etc... All told our bill jumped $50. What service! Their box breaks and I couldn't use a service I paid for for almost a week and then they send me a bill for an extra $50.

Where I live, we're kinda screwed for Dish and DirecTV because of our proximity to some really steep elevation, so we're kind of held captive with Comcast.

BTW... the key to getting the best rate possible with Comcast is to call them and go through all the steps to cancel your service and then do your bartering with the person who tries to keep you. Don't do it with the normal sales people.

I've had similar issues with Time Warner Cable. Common thievery.
After my girlfriend moves in we're going to switch to the fiber optic stuff that has about 200 more channels for the same price that TWC is charging.

I have Cox Cable. When they first offered internet you had to pay 10-12 bucks a month for the modem in addition to the service. Then after a couple of years they offered the modem for sale and I bought mine. We moved and in the new area needed a new modem which they again issued. Then several years later they changed their system and issued new modems. About 6 months ago started having connection issues, we'd have to unplug the modem, wait a few minutes, plug back in, basically "reboot" it. We went from occasionally to several times a day. Then several times an hour! I was told my modem was bad, it was out of warranty and I'd have to buy another...Warranty? What warranty? They gave me this modem so how do I have a warranty? Worked my way up the food chain to the supervisors supervisor. Ended up with a new modem, a tech came out and did a line check from this end, installed a booster/amplifer of some sort, hooked up their wireless router replacing ours. No charge. My bill has gone from $170 a month to $120. Just have to be polite when you say you'll choke the life outa them, that's all. [just kidding:) ]

We have ATT DSL (refused uverse) and we're on our third modem. When we lose connection and it dies, I just call them, walk over to it, and point the heat gun on it. Tell them it's 160 degrees, we get a new modem for free (they pop every 6 months or so)

We have went thru 3 so far and every time they were free.We have the phone, internet, and U-Verse all thru the same modem

Cox can be a real byitch to deal with. They must program their customer reps to say "NO" , the only way to get anywhere with them is move up the line and get to a supervisor and threaten to switch providers, otherwise you'll get nowhere.
My brother in Mass has ComCast and tells me horror stories about them.

I'm finally making the switch from Time Warner to Verizon Fios. I'm getting it hooked up at the end of the month. I'm saving 100 bucks a month which is 1,200 bucks a year. That's an insane price difference for getting the same exact thing I have right now and I can't justify not switching.

It's going to be a fun day to call up Time Warner to tell them to go f*ck themselves. I can't wait!
