What do you guys think of Benny's comment, saying Nascar has to limit the #of cars on pit road at one time so someone doesn't get bumped into.

Well if you don't mind the caution laps being extended even more it would probably work. But, coming up with a system that's fair would be the catch.
I suppose you could pit the top 20 1st and then the rest. But, how do you work out the 20th car having a very slow stop and the 21st (1st in the 2nd group) have a fast stop. And, if either group is pitting close together you really haven't solved the problem of pitting too close.
Or, pit the even pit stalls one lap and the odds the next. Then someone would have to use a computer to figure out by times for each driver how they would line up.
I suppose you could do away with caution pit stops. Except for the car(s) involved and then only if its a safety issue. Making everyone do green flag stops.
I just don't see it changing.

it has been tried before, didn't work and poor ol' benny just can't remember, after mike rich got killed in Atlanta the next year they went with the even odd # pitting and established the pit road speed limit it was a failure that had car owners and drivers fit to be tied.

Benny needs to just stop complaining. It to me adds to the excitement. As long as the crew members are not seriously getting injured then everything is fine.

That is exactly what they need to do. It would also reduce the number of caution laps. Often caution are extended to give everyone a chance to pit.

Bumpzter I have to agree with you on that. It would reduce the number of caution laps. I think it would add more excitement to the races and more of a challange to the drivers and crew if they were only allowed to do green flag pits. Just a thought .

If anything happens I would say they would quit racing on pit road under caution when the Caution comes out they could freeze the field and then pit the cars then reset them basck as before....it would stink but it would be there only option

So a car comes in to pit and they decide to change the engine (I know I'm being genuinely obtuse but you know what I'm saying) then they put that car back in line just like a car who only took on a can of gas.
See, won't work. It takes the excitement and more importantly the crew chief out of the decision making.
Unless they arbitrarily picked an amount of time a car had to pit and if they went over that then there was some penalty.

I argued that a couple years back and everbody jumped me but I still think it is a good ideal.

Another Ideal is to go back to the even odd thing and have the odd cars line up on the inside and the evens on the outside of restarts. Have the lapped cars line up where they came out of the pits. Every restart would be double file with the first and second place car starting next to each other. If a lapped car beats the leaders out of the pits then they get a lap back and get to start at the back of the field. This also gets rid of the lucky dog and could possibly keep more cars on the lead lap.
