Every year, it seems, more and more attention is paid to the latest crop of 30 second commercials being debuted during the annual telecast of the SuperBowl. This year, sponsors will pay as much as $3.5 Million just for the opportunity to have their commercial played during the SuperBowl Game.

There have been some memorable ads over the years, no doubt, with the 1984 MacIntosh ad being universally touted as the all-time best-ever SuperBowl Commercial. (It was only shown on TV that one time, BTW.) It may very well be the best TV Commercial ever produced - period!

But over the course of the last several years, the quality of the SuperBowl advertisers' submissions has left me flat. Maybe they are trying too hard. Maybe they hire the wrong production team. Maybe they are just too short-sighted to know what creativity and imagination are really all about.

In contrast, I have found that the commercials debuted during the telecast of the Daytona 500 each February to be consistently better in terms of their creativity, entertainment value and execution than those shown on SuperSunday. I have had conversations with many of my NA$$CAR friends and we all agree that D500 commercials are superior to SB commercials.

What do y'all think? Which telecast has the better new commercials overall?

Sorry but I can't recall a single commercial shown during the last years D500. Or any 500 for that matter. But I do recall many SB commercials. Mean Joe Green, the Bud horses, and last years little Darth Vader had me LMAOROTF.
Maybe it's the hype of the unveiling that precedes the game or the post games re-plays and evaluations that happen every year.

Most of the time, the Daytona 500 has the better commercials IMO. With the exception of ETRADE and Budweiser, the Super Bowl commercials suck.

I couldn't agree more. There's absolutely no contest between the two broadcasts when it comes to television commercials IMO.

All of the spots you mentioned are from years long gone by - with one exception.
My question is about this century! :D

I have to dissagree on the Apple comments. THIS is the greatest Superbowl commercial ever.

Bud Light, Doritos commercials ave been good more often that bad, even the last two years. And who can forget screaming in horror last year when Joan Rivers was revealed as a GoDaddy Girl. It may have left you scarred for life, but that was pretty damned funny. Sure, there may be crappy commercials, bur there are some great, unforgettable ones as well. Always have been, always will be.

BTW, Andy, I thought you were gonna be less negative this year...

I usually check the reviews and watch a few of the superbowl commercials the next day. When they come on during the game I switch to "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet :) (now with kitty halftime).

YEP, FB! That is a good one! I laffed my arse off. Especially when the bartender would not give the guy a hot dog!

Some of you may be too young to remember this:

Remember, this ad aired (one time) in 1984...

That cracks me up everytime. I don't really understand the Apple ad, since MS never really got into the hardware business and Apple has always been far more restrictive in their business. Apple is a prime example of "Do it our way or get lost", while MS was too open and allowed hardware and software vendors to spec out much of the Vista disaster.

I always like the Daytona ones because more often they are the racing related commercials for the year and they are funny, until about the millionth time you see it in march

it's gonna take a pioneer of a commercial by the GO DADDY folks with DANICA that will top their superbowl add. Otherwise, it's just to easy to recycle that commercial three weeks later.

The Super Bowl by far has the best commercials. The majority of the Daytona commercials tend to deal with the male erection in some form or another.

LOL Yo u would be correct!

BTW, so does your Avitar, Big Boy!!! :booya:

First Half Recap:

Nothing of note - except for the Beckham Bodywear Spot. And that's only because I want to see Flash model that sh!t! lol

The BUD Prohibition Spot was OK. The VW spot with the dog was funny. The GoDaddy Spot featuring Miss Thang was a ZERO, IMO.

Other than that... *YAWN*

As for Madonna... puh-leeze...

Drivers, Start Your Engines!!!

I actually thought last year revitalized the Super Bowl commercials. There were solid efforts from Anheiser Busch across their brands, Doritos, Pepsi, and E*Trade.

Nothing I mean NOTHING will ever top the Budweiser Frog series of comercials!

I dunno, I loved last years Budweiser "Tiny Dancer" commercial. The Pepsi Max "first date" commercial was an instant classic as well.

A few I thought were great! The dog VW commercial (ending with the Vader bit), the M&Ms "oh, it's that kind of party" on, and the Doritos dog burying the cat "you didn't see nuthin" one were funny. We just looked at Hulu and rewatched ones that we either missed or didn't air, and there were a few funny one.

AGREED i just laughed my ass off watching those they are still CLASSIC lol. That and "Man I love you....but your not getting my bud light"

There doesn't seem to be much backing for the Daytona 500 having better commercials in this thread. I don't think that anyone mentioned any particular D500 commercial yet people seem to remember many Super Bowl commercials. Looks like the Super Bowl wins this topic hands down.

Looks that way, DP. Maybe we can re-visit the topic after the D500 telecast.

The thing about the D500 commercials is it seems the get about 10 commercials and beat you to death with the same ones.Once you get to half way thru the race you so tired of seeing the same ones. The Super Bowl ones seem to have few repeats.

The one from daytona that sticks out in my head is the start of DRIVE THE TRUCK DALE! they were pretty good at the beginning.

The Super Bowl commercials are the best hands down. The Bud commercials usually are the best, but they sucked this year. The Go Daddy also sucked this year, but some of the other commercials were awesome and probably some of the best of all time. There were about 10 of us race teams that was on the way to Pomona California and we all stopped at a sports bar in Barstow Ca and watched the Super Bowl and I have never heard so many people laugh so hard in my life. I would have to give it a thumbs up.

Do those of you that thought that the D500 had better commercials than the Super Bowl still feel the same way? Not a contest IMO.
