2003: #17-Matt Kenseth has 2848 points, 234 ahead of 2nd in the standings, #24-Jeff Gordon
2002: #40-Sterling Marlin had 2604 points, 227 ahead of 7th place in the
standings, #20-Tony Stewart, who won the Cup so there still is a chance with 17 races to go.

I dont think Kenseth is going to lose, it. As long as he doesn't get hurt and keeps going out and finishing in the top 20, there is NO WAY they can catch up. Unless Jr and Gordon win every race the rest of the year!!!! :) :p

while it ain't over by any means...........using last season with Sterling as a comparison is not necessarily a good choice.

Sterling was stumbling badly already and besides that his season ended early and his car won a race after he departed.

Historically it looks good for MAtt. but he's gotta keep digging/

Jeff only has to make up 14 points per race to catch Matt, It's far from over
