Okay I am trying to figure something out and it is probably right in front of my face but I am lost. MB2 runs the #10 Valvoline with Scott Riggs but now Evernham has said they are taking the Valvoline sponse and running a thirs team next year. They also say it is the #10. Did MB2 give up thier "rights" to the #10 and are they not going to run Scott Riggs nect year??

Here's what I've read. The #10 and Valvoline will move to Evernham's shops and will consist mainly of the #91 crew and taking the owners points as well. The #91 team will continue as long as Elliott wants to race but will begin as a new team with no owner's points. MB2 will have a new number but has not yet announced a driver or if Riggs will stay on. Riggs has been rumored to stay with the #10 at Evernham, but they have yet to say anything about a new driver. The new team at MB2 will take the owners points of this years #10 team.

Clear as mud huh. :)

I think the number in and of itself belonged to Valvoline, which was part owner of that race team.

Actually I believe the teams own the numbers, not the sponsors. Valvoline was number 6 when Mark Martin was in it. RCR still owns number 3, etc.

True. But, with Valvoline being part owner they own part of the number. A deal was probably struck (read money) for them to take the number with them. Also, the numbers have to be renewed each year (again read money) for NASCAR to recognize them.

as barley just said.....Valvoline was part owner of the MB2...it wasnt a normal team/sponser deal.....when they sold their part of the ownership of the 10 car back to MB2 im sure there was money that changed hands in order for them to keep the rights to the 10.

whoa...for once barley and i said the same thing.

What is the big deal with the "read money" deal? Is there anyone out there who believes that any part of NASCAR, from the top dogs in Daytona to the broom pushers in Mooresville that don't deal with money? Money is what this sport is all about these days.

Yes, I believe there are people, even some on here, that think drivers, owners, teams etc. do it for the love of the sport and not for the green. I can imagine folks putting forth Schrader, RGordon, Stewart and others as being in the game totally for the sport. And, while they may be closer than some of the others it still about the money.
I suppose I'm trying to spread my jaundiced view of the world to some of the innocents here... :growl:

only place your going to find folks racin for the love of the sport is at your local short track
Man, you got that right. I work with a guy who owns three modified cars, the ones like the northern tour, and his winnings don't even come close to covering the costs. Also, I'm not sure how much he pays the drivers, but it can't be very much. He's always asking me if I want to buy a set of tires for a race. :)

All that stuff about racing for the love of the sport is so romantic.......straight out of "Gone With the Wind". We..........everyone of us fans not directly involved in the sport, enjoy what what we see on both TV and live at our local tracks because of the money spent by everyone who sponsors, supports, or works on those cars that our favorites drive every week. And if a driver is good and successful, do you think he would go to an underfunded, less than adequately financed team that "loves" the sport of racing more than being competitive? I think not. Real world racing (even the racing at your local short track) is about money.

That's the price of success.

MB2 is the #01 team, MBV is the #10 team, the "V" is for Valvoline and as barly said was half owner of the team.
