Kurt Busch, our new points leader in the Chase for the Championship.......a great run to take over the lead in the quest for the title!! Fifth place in the Talladega race edged out Dale Earnhardt, Jr who finished first, for a 12 point lead in the series!! Ain't it great how this sport is.......come to a race 13 points out of the lead and two days later get bumped up to the top of the list!! And that's after finishing 4 positions behind the one you overtook!! Now that's how it's done..........great work Kurt!!

Congrats to Kurt Busch and the entire #97 team on assuming the points lead, deservedly so as Kurt's the only "chase" driver to finish among the Top 5 in each of the 3 "chase" races thus far,WTG! :D

   Uh....... yeah, DEW.

Junior is the main obstacle between KB and the title, all right . Oh yeah. No doubt about it.

Aren't you forgetting the only real threat to Kurt on the remaining tracks is Jeff Gordon? That southpark character wannabe had his last stand at Dega. Now it's time to seperate the wheat from the chaffe. And bluntly, I doubt anyone's judgement that thinks Jr has the versatile and adaptable skills of Busch, Gordon or Stewart.

Even though he has won on just about every type of track, other than a road course?

I just dont group brakeless, shiftless, point and go plate-races--which are 50% of his wins--- in the same category as , say, 4 Bristol wins.

But that seems to be the only track Busch can win at right now.

First let me say that the following is not completely finished, but it does have all the drivers stats on the remaining tracks. I'll be doing a little tweaking to the presentation of it before I actually post it on my site later tonight. But as the conversation has turned to the championship contenders past performances...

I interpret it as Kurt having Gordon, Stewart, and maybe even Martin to be more concerned about than little E. Although Jr does have a better average then KB on most of the upcoming tracks. Whew at least Kurt does have a 12 point pad now!

Haven't heard that in a while....78 used to take me home. I forgot what its called now, part of Corridor X...

Bankhead highway, yeah part of the still unfinished corridor x. I know every topless bar and beer joint, ( uh, I have heard of them, I mean,)near the county line, on the route to Jasper. Still travel that way myself a good bit.

Going by tonyB's info, wouldnt that mean this is the drivers average finish for the final races:

Kurt busch: 20.0
Dale Jr: 16.2

Jeff Gordon:10.8
Tony Stewart:10.7
Jimmie Johnson: 10.6

Looks to me like yall are looking at the wrong guys :p .

Maybe they should take 10 points or so away for the "special" plates they give him :p

Just kidding. Trying to make up for EMP's absence B)

That's why NASCAR rearranged the points system this season,so as to remove those pesky road courses from "the chase" and give Dale Jr. a great shot at the Championship.

JMHO. ;) :p

Some people just never give up. I do believe they think the series should be EarnhartSCAR. My only question is if they believe this so much, why do they continue to watch the sport. Wouldn't it be in their better interest to watch something like IRL, CART, of F1 and just forget about NASCAR? Unless of course, they want to see another Daytona 500, 2001 version.

Sorry dude...didn't get the memo.

Junior's main obstacle to winning in this new and "improved" era is Junior himself. He shot his mouth off, shot himself in the foot, and to the surprise of every living soul who follows stock car racing NASCAR held its ground with him for a change. So whine away, DEW, it's cracking me up.

If someone had told me that Kurt and Junior would be involved in a circumstance that saw the points lead change hands off the track because of impulsive behavior on one of their parts, and then told me that Junior was the one who screwed up and Kurt kept his cool, I'd have had you committed.

Even when NASCAR tries to hand Junior the championship on a silver platter, he finds a way to lose it. What a joke! He'll never amount to anything. Kyle Petty will win more championships than Junior will. He's just too stupid to keep his mouth shut and let them hand it to him. (Bristol's intentional spin, thinking he's Richard Pryor last week...) Funny really.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. <_<

Ok, they'll win the same number of championships.

Better? :p

I wish I could find the article again, but I read that Lil'E is looking for 1 championship to prove that he can win one and then he moves on with other things that he is more interested in. Something Kyle never had the opportunity to do...

Kyle never had the opportunity to do what? Move on and do other things. Yeah, right, the poor guy lives here in NC with little or no money. Oh, you mean have the opportunity to win a championship. Yeah, he's never had that opportunity either. Never had a name that would help him. Never had anything handed to him. It's a wonder Kyle has made it this far in life. Kyle almost won a title way back when he was driving for Sabates, but he's never been the great driver his father, grandfather or son was. He'll admit as much too. However, to say that he has never had an opportunity for anything in the world is a stretch.

Kurts in the lead right now and has JR to thank. Jr is in second right now and has Jr to thank.

Even the thought of DuRt BuScH winning the Nextel Cup makes me wanna puke :(

I'm sure Junior will win at least one championship. Even he can't keep NASCAR from making sure that happens at least once. :p
