* Conseco files for bankruptcy UPDATE will not sponsor the #14: Conseco struggling under more than $6 billion in debt, became the third-largest U.S. bankruptcy Wednesday, as the insurance and loan firm sought protection from creditors while it sells its finance unit and tries to restructure itself. Conseco's filing, made in bankruptcy court in Chicago, is the third largest in U.S. history. Conseco has assets of $52.2 billion, according to recent financial reports, putting the firm behind only WorldCom Inc. and Enron Corp. The bankruptcy filings cover Conseco Inc. -- the holding company -- and its troubled loan operation Conseco Finance and some related units. Conseco's insurance units, under the close watch of state insurance regulators, are not affected.(Money Magazine site), how this effects the #14 AJ Racing Conseco team is not known.(12-18-2002)
UPDATE: A.J. Foyt has learned that his Conseco, which recently filed for bankurptcy, will not return as his primary sponsor in 2003. Instead of a two-car operation, Larry Foyt will drive the #14 with Harrah's Casinos as the sponsor.(PRN's Garage Pass)(12-21-2002)

Another driver out of a job. Mike Wallace will be in a situation that he has been used to...looking for a ride.

Well at least he's away from the other cut throat owner.:)

Ya don't like AJ either? I know you had to have been a fan of the old Indy races, so who did you root for there? AJ was okay, but I was a big Gordon Johncock fan.

Never much on Indy style races..........actually, the reason might just surprise you though. They go just too damned fast! Well, not really, but some teams do........I like close races and with the leader a lap or more ahead of the second place car just doesn't cut it for me.:) I hate NASCAR's meddling with rules, yet that meddling has brought about better racing for me.........just wish they wouldn't make the rule changes after the season starts!:) But to pick a couple: Micheal Andretti and Little Al.

I don't really dislike AJ as a driver.........just his treatment of the drivers since becoming owner of a NASCAR team.

Long overdue announcement. I wonder where that leaves Mike Wallace. Without a job, it looks.

Just one of many drivers that should go to the truck series.

There aren't many more sponsors in that series either. Everyone is hurting right now.

Mike is running the #4 Bagi Brother BGN car again in 2003, I know that for a fact.

OT a little:

well obviously you have not seen an IRL race in the past of 3 years or so?

Normaly, this year big time, the IRL races were alot better than the CUP races. I saw a statistic some where that said there in cup in 2002 there were no passes for the lead on the last lap at all. And only like 10 pasess for the lead in the last 10 laps of any race this year. Not counting Daytona and dega.

In the IRL you had 8 cars at Michigan battling for the lead all race long and even down to the last lap. Plus like 5 or 6 photofinishes this year as well. So don't say Indy cars is not close racing!

Ok off the soap box now.
if you could not tell I am a big supporter of the IRL, The IRl and CART are nothing alike. IMO CART is hurting the IRL because the cars look similar, and CART is a 200mph parade. People get the IRL and CART all moxed up and it draws people away from the exciting IRL.
DEW this was not ment to slam you or anything, just want to make that clear right away.

Ok Now I really am off the sopabox!!

Pettybenson, obviously you are correct..........I have not been watching much, if any IRL (CART or F1 either) in the past 3 or 4 years. Actually, much longer than that.:D I just got disinterested years ago and concentrated on NASCAR (and some ARCA, Sprint car, and Modified thrown in once in a while). You might say I'm not a true race fan since I don't have that interest.........though I will disagree quite vocally with you.:) My experience with Indy style racing was boring and unexciting back then and, like I said, "it just didn't cut it with me".:) I don't put down the racing......just don't care for it. I just wanted to "clear the air"...........so now I'm off my soap box, too.:)
