A guy on a hockey fight forum I go to posted this from the race the other day. I thought some of you would enjoy it.

I went to the NASCAR race in Martinsville this past Sunday. The pit between Marcos Ambrose and Brad Keslowski was empty and seemed like a good spot to hang out. Amrose got rear ended, and the damage was so bad they couldn't get fuel int he car. So I recorded his series of stops to try and work on things.

First stop is on the first caution after the damage. Second stop is under the same caution. Third stop, same caution. They do stops like this trying to avoid loosing laps, he takes off when the spotter tells him the pace car is at a certain position, no matter what the guys are doing. Seems like a good way for a guy to get snagged on all that jagged metal and ****ed up, to bad that didn't happen :D They go back to green while he is in the pit still on the third stop. Fourth stop is a caution several laps later, car has to be running out of gas by then. Al lthe gas they try to get in just falls to the ground as you can see. Fifth stop, same caution, if you listen closely you can hear the car shut off at about 2:47, out of fuel. After sawing off a large portion of the rear quarter panel and bumper, they finally get some fuel in it!

Thank you for thanking me. I love stuff like this, the behind the scenes stuff that goes on during a race that they rarely tell you about during the race. It impresses the hell out of me how pit crews work their magic and go through all kinds of options and have to come up with plans B, C, D in the time it takes for the car to make a lap, just to keep their car from going to the garage.

Yeah, great video.

If you think about it, there really is no other place to put the fuel intake. The right side would obviously put the gasman in harm's way on pit road. And slapping the wall (fishtailing or someone rattlin' your cage) on the right side certainly doesn't help.

I've always thought the pit crew was really impressive to follow. What they do to try to get a car running better, or just to keep it on the track is pretty impressive.
