Cope to run full season in 2006 for McGlynn Racing: McGlynn Racing and Derrike Cope to run full NEXTEL Cup schedule in 2006. McGlynn Racing and Derrike Cope have announced they will run a full NEXTEL Cup schedule in 2006. Former Daytona 500 winner, a veteran of over 400 Cup [actually has 399] series starts, will run the #00 for the team. New sponsorship for the team is nearing completion and will be announced in the coming weeks.(McGlynn Racing PR)

I can't see this team running more than 10-15 races before they go under.

yea, no kidding. I don't see em making the first 5, thats for sure (no owner points)

You guys are pretty harsh on a former Daytona 500 winner. :)

Next year, at least the first part, is sure going to look very competitive at the back of the pack. With a year under his belt as an owner, I think that Robbie Gordon has a leg up to those others who are trying to make the field for the first time, including those top Busch runners. Fortunately for some of them, they have last years points to fall back on. I can remember when Jeff Burton first made the move with a Roush team and missed a couple of the first races. It'll be fun to watch for sure.

The only way Robby will do anything is if he continues to use DEI engines. As for Cope what has he done since winning the Daytona 500..............nothing, what makes you think that will change?

Yeah, this doesn't sound very promising. Reminds me of the whole John Andretti team last year. (did i mention I saw them test at Kentucky?)
However, points or no points, Kevin LePage made the 500 last year on muscle guts and luck and that helped carry him (and especially the backstabbing team he drove for) a long damn way in the points...robby was one spot off from being in his position...Making that first race makes or breaks you if you don't have the points from the previous year.

I don't think Robby will be using DEI engines in '06. He did better in '05 AFTER he dropped them.

no, in 05 he dropped MENARDS and went to DEI. That was with permission from menards, because they're engine program is in the roots, and DEI's is full steam ahead. As to how menards and DEI are connected, i dont know.

Paul Menard drives for DEI, his father John (i think its his father) does Indy or F-1 or something. Robby had Menards as a sponsor back in 2000 during his first attempt at his own cup team. They seem to have a history, so, assuming that Paul and his father get along, the connection should be obvious.

Me either.... as far as i have read and heard DEI still has a very strong engine program.
