Car of Tomorrow to test at Talladega this week
In preparation for the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow's first restrictor-plate race, 52 Nextel Cup Series teams are scheduled to conduct tests at Talladega Superspeedway Monday and Tuesday.
The UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega on Oct. 7 will be the 14th of 16 races in which the Car of Tomorrow will be used this season. Next season, NASCAR's next-generation car, designed to improve safety, competition and cost-effectiveness, will be used in all 36 events.
"I think it's going to be a big test," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition. "When you look at Talladega historically, they have had some of the most exciting races and tightest competition. That race track is one of the widest tracks we go to. It is the biggest track we go to. So the races there have historically been great."
Talladega will be the fourth stop in the Chase for the Nextel Cup, the 10-race playoff that will decide the season champion. Five of those events will be run with the new car.
