Car of Tomorrow to test at Talladega this week

In preparation for the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow's first restrictor-plate race, 52 Nextel Cup Series teams are scheduled to conduct tests at Talladega Superspeedway Monday and Tuesday.

The UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega on Oct. 7 will be the 14th of 16 races in which the Car of Tomorrow will be used this season. Next season, NASCAR's next-generation car, designed to improve safety, competition and cost-effectiveness, will be used in all 36 events.

"I think it's going to be a big test," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition. "When you look at Talladega historically, they have had some of the most exciting races and tightest competition. That race track is one of the widest tracks we go to. It is the biggest track we go to. So the races there have historically been great."

Talladega will be the fourth stop in the Chase for the Nextel Cup, the 10-race playoff that will decide the season champion. Five of those events will be run with the new car.

I wonder if they could take the plates off now that the car is slower and has more down force.

I heard they had to add a 1/2" wickerbill to the wing to try and slow the cars down.
They were running 3, 4 and sometimes 5 wide.

I heard this on Dave Moody show on Sirius radio.

Didn't they also say that to make it fair for everyone else they were going to put Jimmy Spencer in the back seat of Tony's car...

No, they were going to change his last name to Johnson and make him drive the Chase races with Andy Petrie as his crew chief and Rusty as overall supervisor.

I don't know if it is actually slower, Bucky, but the busch cars seem like they run faster than the COT.
