COT vs. regular car: The numbers tell the real story

There is a very easy solution to all of this, really. For those who want cars that look like spaceships, have tons of downforce & go really fast, there is something called irl and cart. For those who want to see stock cars that make big holes in the air, slide/bump around the track , there is Nascar. Stock Car auto racing. That is what I prefer & that is what I believe the COT will bring back in years to come. Remember, folks, this thing is brand new, and the racing is pretty darn good right out of the box. Over time, I think this thing will make for better & better racin. Can't wait to see them at an Atlanta, Charlotte, or Texas !

So I was watching Speed last night and they were showing the 1987 (Dale over Elliot) and 1989 (Rusty over DW) All Star Race highlights. Those cars sure did look boxy with flat fronts and rears. They had a spoiler rather than a wing but otherwise they don't look so different than the COT.

And, if you go back further still, the grilles were not taped up, the brake ducts were wide open and although aero played a part, it was not as sleek or as sensitive as it was the past few years.

What is wrong with the COT ?? Nothing really. The racing looks better and the drivers are grumbling about the handling are complaimimg because this is a change and the ywill get used to it. In five years, when NASCAR makes changes again, the same bellyaching will take place.

There are many who will not like the COT for whatever reason, and it makes me wonder if those people who are complaining about COT, comparing it to races and cars of recent years, are just looking for something to harp about. Or maybe it is because HMS is winning the COT events ??

There is a reason for that. HMS did their homework on the COT early on. Three of the wins by HMS where the COT was used were "given" to them by other teams with faster cars.
Don't hate HMS for the mistakes others make. HMS is smart and quick enough to capitalize on the mistakes of others.

I would like to see the COT in all races, not just a few. The thought NASCAR has specific templates and descriptions of assembled parts, regulations and lays out punishment of rule violations, should reduce cheating (don't look for it to go away) and make the playing field more level.

Now, if only they would establish as set of specs as to when the caution should be used.....................................;)

looking at my wall of champions 70-90, i have to agree

No way am I seeing fans giving the old COT a good opinion. CT, I haven't seen it put any better than the way you put it. Racing is like everything else in that when there are changes introduced, there will be plenty of gripes. I say this, if you don't like what yer drivin', switch to another series and go there. Also, if you are a fan and don't like what you see, there's a couple of other series with full coverage that you can also watch, so go there. But don't gripe when you have to get up early in the morning to watch one of those races you so love. Also, if they only have a dozen or so races a year, suck it up and say that at least, they are racing. You can see real drivers like JPM hitting their heads on a standing cameraman who has his camera pointed in another direction than you.

Folks, racing is racing and NASCAR is racing. Like what you see with the COT, good, for that is the future of the series. If you don't like what you see, sorry bout that, but that's what the future is. There are plenty of other series that might give you your fix, but me thinks that it takes more than that.
