There was no certainity that Bob Jenkins was going back to ESPN for next season's NASCAR coverage. That is, until today.

Speed signs Roberts, Dillner and Venturini; Jenkins out: Chris Long, SPEED VP of Studio Production, today announced SPEED has signed popular NASCAR RaceDay host John Roberts through 2009. In related moves, SPEED re-signed veteran motor sports reporters Bob Dillner and Wendy Venturini to two-year deals.(Speed Channel PR), also hearing the veteran broadcaster, Bob Jenkins was not retained by Speed Channel and is looking for a new job.(6-23-2006)

I am really hoping ESPN signs Jenkins to be the lead announcer. There has been talk ESPN might have Dr. Jerry Punch be the lead announcer in the booth. As much as like Dr. Punch, he's a little dry when it comes to calling a race. Jenkins is a pro's pro and I hope they will be quick to sign him for next season.

Jenkins was fired when he was doing IRL. I doubt that they will bring him back.

Dilner is one of the most annoying announcers out there. Didn't like him when he did ASA and dislike him even more now.

It isn't a personal thing. The man's style and voice just grates on me.

The old ones are fading away and the new ones are coming in. Unfortunately, the quality just isn't there.

i hope they bring Jenkins back. he was pretty good. and if Dr. Punch is in the pits, they got themselves a pretty good crew put together.

we need more Jerry Punch's and Dick Berggerens's......And retired drivers. I think Having Rusty in the booth is going to help alot.

I was under the impression Jenkins quit because he didn't like his role of splitting time with Paul Page. If you think about it, ABC/ESPN have rolled out a number of lead announcers for their IRL coverage in recent years. That's says a lot.

I agree on Dilner. I didn't like him when he was with TNN. His style is terrible.

The word I got was that they let him go because he was forgetting the drivers names while he was on the air with the IRL races. But that info could be wrong.

I liked Jenkins when he was doing Nascar. He had the type of voice that didn't get on your last nerve when he was doing commentary. But then again, everyone has a different preference and I am sure that there will be someone to disagree.

I was looking forward to Rusty's commentary. I liked him on the few Trackside shows. But after listening to him doing IRL races, I'm not sure anymore. He talks too much and repeats himself too much.

So, somebody post a poll about "favorite commentator" or "least favorite commentator".

We all can debate this 'til we are blue in the face, but in the long run, it's not up to us. I kinda like DW , Mikey, Kenny Wallace, Jimmy Spencer, and more.........even tho they can be annoying.
