The sport is all over the news. From all the wrecks leading up to the 500, to all the amazing angles making the news after Monday's race. Danica Patrick starts her first Daytona 500 and makes headlines with a couple of wrecks. Keselowski's twitter episode makes news in dozens of local, national and international publications. Juan's impromtu BBQ makes the evening news. A 20 year old hit and run death is solved because a driver put the victim on his car last summer. Ratings are up across the board, but more importantly, 18 to 36 numbers take a big jump.

Brian and the moonshine boys must be having one hell of a party.

Unbelievable. What's next? Daytona speedway announces that while ripping up the damaged section of track they find the Holy Grail and the Pope shows up?

This has been one crazy start to the season, and I'm loving it.

The NW series is going to be the ticket this year. And Im not saying that because Danica is racing either.

There's real competition there. Guys are fighting for their jobs every week.

I'm looking foward to some real truck-like racing this year in NW and Cup. I think that when the smoke clears, the booring gentlemans agreement in cup will be all but gone.

That would be insane. What would happen if Danica edges Jr at the line for her first win?

Or a weekend when she wins a natonwide race on Saturday and junior wins on Sunday. If both of them could get wins the ratings are going to be insane. I do believe for them to fully take advantage of potential "new fans" that danica has to either win a race or be in the top 10 every week. We live in a world with such short attention spans that if she doesn't, the viewers are going to tune out fast.

They are on a roll for sure. I know people were freaking out about the excessive Danica exposure but they know what they are doing when it comes to marketing. They are more than willing to upset a few dorks on message boards in order to grow the sport.

I truely believe that Danica will have multiple NW wins this year, because she has top line equiptment and more race experience than 90% of the field.....and she's patient. She isn't forcing things and causing wrecks. When she starts running up front away from the messes, she'll get win opportunities.

I would love it if this came to fruition but I don't see it. I am a fan of Danica but she just may not yet have the confidence and experience it takes to battle in the top 5 when they are racing hard. She will need to vastly improve her restarts and corner entry to have any shot. She's still a rookie much less stock car experience than anyone else so I think if she is going to show any strength it will be in the final 3rd of the season. I just wish she'd do 2 full NW seasons.

Time will tell, Matt. I may be overly impressed with her racer attitude and her repeated statements that she won't give in to the need to win now crowd. She want's to learn as much as possible and progress naturally. I think it will pay off big. I also like what she said about fenders and bumpers. In open wheel, drivers had to wait for the stewards to move a guy who refused to give others racing room. She likes the idea of handeling it herself. She gets it.

I agree with all of that. Her approach to all of this is right on. Obviously she it a marketing juggernaut but she is a racer and want very badly to be competitive. People whine about her language and displays of emotion but I think it's great.

She doesn't need to win now as long as she stays up front people will tune in just to see the chance of her winning. If she starts to finish towards the back of the pack or keeps getting cars wrecked(due to her fault or not) on a weekly basis then I think people will start tuning out fairly quickly.

Exactly. People that tune occasionally just to see where she's running will stay tuned for much longer if she's in the top 10. Then they get hooked on the sport. That's how it happened to me in 1998.
