Craftsman trucks

Is the Craftsman truck series dying off? We have had a truck race every year at PPIR since 1998. Was in the local paper this morning that the series will not be coming back again. They are going to replace it with a USAC race. Hope they don't take away our Busch race. Its all we got.

ESPN hasn't done anything to help the truck series. Maybe if Fox or TNT would pick it up as well they would be getting more promotion, cause they don't even advertise truck races.

It is believed that the series move to Speed for next season will lend itself to more cross promtion with WC and BGN broadcasts. While Speed does not reach the total households that ESPN does, those most likely to watch a CTS race probably number near the same. Speed broke the magic of number of a 1.0 rating for first time with its telecast of last weeks Happy Hour from Talledega. I don't think ESPN has mustered a rating over 1.0 for the trucks this season.

Don't know why the series is not visiting PPIR next season.

The article said that they have trouble getting a sponser for the event and 20,000 people showing up this past year wasn't enough.

BTW, the BGN cars will at Pike Peak on July 26, 2003.

The May date PPIR has this season is still open for the CTS folks, so far only two races in May have been confirmed for the trucks. Don't know if this a NASCAR decision or a track decision. NASCAR has indicated that they have no desire to trim the number of CTS races next year.
