Ricky Craven and PPI Motorsports will part ways following the 2004 Nextel Cup season, according to a statement released jointly Thursday by the driver and team.
"PPI Motorsports and Ricky Craven remain committed to each other...this season," the statement said. "Together, (they) have evaluated the team's performance-related challenges and agree that it is in their mutual best interest to part at the end of 2004 and explore opportunities for 2005 and beyond.

Rumors about Ricky Craven's future with the team owned by Cal Wells have been swirling in the NASCAR world the past few days. Thursday's statement comes on the eve of qualifying for the season's first race at New Hampshire International Speedway, a track where the fortunes of Craven, a Maine native, are followed with particular intensity.
