Lowe's Motor Speedway officials say the track will host the inaugural Kobalt Tools Crew Chief Race on Saturday, May 19.

NASCAR crew chiefs will compete in a 30-minute racing format that will include two qualifying heats and a feature. The event will take place prior to the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge.

Those expected to participate are: Hendrick Motorsports' Alan Gustafson (driver Kyle Busch), Chad Knaus (Jimmie Johnson), Darian Grubb (Casey Mears) and Steve Letarte (Jeff Gordon); Petty Enterprises' Billy Wilburn (Kyle Petty) and Paul Andrews (Bobby Labonte); Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s Kevin "Bono" Manion (Martin Truex Jr.) and Tony Eury Jr. (Dale Earnhardt Jr.); Richard Childress Racing's Gil Martin (Clint Bowyer), Scott Miller (Jeff Burton), Todd Berrier (Kevin Harvick); Chip Ganassi Racing's Jimmy Elledge (Reed Sorenson) and Steve Lane (David Stremme) and Speed's Jeff Hammond (who will drive the No. 11) and Larry McReynolds (No. 28).

"There will be a lot of smack talked in the garage area before and after this event," McReynolds said. "It's about bragging rights. It's like the Masters; those cats just want that green jacket. This is a great addition to NASCAR Nextel All-Star week activities."

I wondering about 2 things:

A. WHAT will they drive?

B. Will they use the big track or the small 1/4 mile legends track?

I'm betting they'll drive Legends cars on the little track.

I'm betting on the little track. I don't know what they will drive though.

Utilizing Thunder Roadsters manufactured by 600 Racing and decaled to replicate the paint schemes of the Nextel Cup cars they oversee, the crew chiefs will compete in a 30-minute racing program that will include two qualifying heats and a feature race. The racing action will take place on the speedway's quarter-mile oval, located on the frontstretch of the 1.5-mile track, and will be televised by SPEED.

I hope that I can see it or at least record it. It should be fun.

Our seats are at the start/finish line. We have a great view of all the stuff done on the little track.

I'd rather see them racing the legend cars instead of the Thunder Roadsters. I've seen them race and wasn't very impressed.

They usually race the ledgends. Don't know anybody driving them but some pretty good racing before the All Star race. I still want to call it The Winston.
