Crew Pay?

I was just wondering how the people that build the cars get paid and how much? Do they get more money if the driver is performing better? Just one of them nagging questions that I need to know.

I'm pretty sure that they are paid a salary, and probably have incentives for performance/finishes for the car(s) that they work on. I do remember seeing an article in "Stock Car Racing" magazine that the pit crew members make at lease $900 per race plus incentives. Not bad for a days work, don't ya say???

You would probably have to find someone on the inside of one of the race shops to get a firm answer, though.

I have a relative that used to work for Petty Enterprises. I should talk to him. Thanks though.
 
Dave offered me 25 a week plus room and board once.

That was a very long time ago tho, probably get at least a hundred nowadays.:D
 
I can't speak for Nascar, but the way Penske does it with his open wheel teams is..... All crew members get a base salary, they get a per diem everyday that they're on the road, and they get a percentage of the winnings. Each person gets a different percentage. Depends on experience, seniority, blah, blah,blah. I don't know how other teams do it but Penske shares. If Helio wins, all crew members on Gil's team also get money and vice versa. When Helio's Pit crew won the pit stop competition, Gil's pit crew got a part of that. Everyone from the transporters to the pit board holder get bonus checks from the winnings. While they compete against each other, they're definately a TEAM.
