Crocker On ARCA Pole
Bobby Gerhart’s quest to win a fifth consecutive pole award at Daytona came to a screeching halt Friday afternoon at Daytona Int’l Speedway when Erin Crocker qualified just over two-tenths quicker, winning the pole for the 44th annual ARCA 200 at Daytona. Crocker, in the #98 Evernham Motorsports Dodge, qualified with a top speed of 182.219 mph over Gerhart, who qualified second at 181.437 mph.

"It’s a thrill to be on the pole here in Daytona,” said Crocker. “I used to come here as a little girl. The plan is right now to run twelve ARCA races and four truck races. Right now we have no sponsor, but if we get one maybe we will run more. Right now the pressure is off. I plan to have fun. The car felt good but we'll see what it does with cars around it. It was a Kasey Kahne car. Not sure when he last used it. I don't know much about it.

“Bobby Gerhart congratulated me but told me to buckle up...I'm not sure what that meant, but I do think that the veterans respect me. I think I have a shot at winning tomorrow based on the car they gave me and the qualifying lap that I ran."

Crocker’s Daytona pole marks her fourth career ARCA RE/MAX Series pole, tying her with Patty Moise with the most poles in series history among female drivers. However, Crocker was not the first female pole winner at Daytona. That honor goes to Moise who won RE/MAX Series poles at Daytona in 1989 and 1990. Crocker also has pole awards at Nashville Superspeedway in her 2005 series debut and two at Kentucky Speedway in 2005 and 2006.

In 13 career ARCA RE/MAX Series starts, Crocker’s career-best finish was second at Kansas Speedway in 2006 and second at Kentucky Speedway in 2005, which ties her with Shawn Robinson as the highest finishing females in series history. Although Crocker is the only female driver in series history who has earned two second place finishes.

Gerhart, who had previously won a record four consecutive Daytona pole awards (2003 through 2006) had to settle for the second starting position in his #5 Lucas Oil Chevrolet.

But, she IS on the pole. Kudos to her. Nice accomplishment regardless of anything else, not to mean that she won't accomplish more.

I think most people in the ARCA garage would have been surprised if a car that was fast enough to run second in the Talladega Cup race last year wasnt quick enough to set on the pole for an ARCA race . At a stab and steer track like Daytona having a car that has exponentially more wind tunnel time then the combined ARCA field is always a nice edge .

Much more interesting to most was Bobby Gerhardts comment to Rays courtesan when he congratulated her on winning the pole and then told her "to make sure she buckled up " to which Ms Crocker responded " Im not sure what that ment " To those that dont follow ARCA or have a short memory like Rays new squeeze , On a late restart at Gateway last year Ms Crocker pile drove Gerhardt wrecking him and costing the win .

I would think starting beside Bobby Gerhardt will be one of the most dangerous places for Ms Crocker to be in next to locked in a room with Mary Evernham . Just like Ray will learn in a Mecklenburg divorce court later this year pay back is a b****

Multi, not having much access to any ARCA races last year, I haven't had much opportunity to see Gerhardt race so I don't know his tendencies. But I'm sure that incident is still in the front of his memories, especially with her starting beside him. I remember a few years ago when Shawna Robinson started on the pole at a Busch race. It was Mike Wallace I believe that made some comments before the race about her making sure she doesn't get in the way, and when the race began, sure enough, Mike punted her into the wall. You could hear the clucking from the women all over the world after that incident.

I don't know if the guys really want to move the ladies out of the way, or if they just aren't familiar enough with their styles to prevent these types of things happening. Maybe they want to see if the women are tough enough for the sport. And I'm not all that familiar with how the ARCA rulers are with discipline. However, I'm sure there will be many eyes on those two at the beginning of the race and that I'm sure Bobby is aware of. If I were a betting man, I'd say that Bobby would not doing anything revengeful right off the bat and if he chooses to do so will only do it in the middle stages of the race, and then only if the opportunity is there.

Buck you know you dont have to hit anyone at a plate track to wreck them . You can just take the air off them when they are a little loose or just not not let them get down a lane when they need to . Bobby has been around a long time and I would not expect him to do anything blatant . There are only about 4 or 5 cars in contention to win this race and Ms Crocker has the car to beat .

It should be interesting.

I think I read somewhere that Ray likes it when Crocker is on the pole...oh, wait...y'all are talking racing aren't you...

^ LMAO

Anyways this chick doesn't learn huh? i am watching the ARCA Race, and you would think she'd learn when she got hang out to dry the first time..but no she had to step out off line and get hang out to dry again...dumb

Who won the ARCA race? I left a friend's home after the second big wreck and thought I'd get home before it was over. Didn't happen and I can't find the finish order anywhere.

Bobby Gerhart did, dont know the rest since i dont follow ARCA.

I finally saw the full story at RacingOne and she finished 20th. With all those cars out of the race, that might have been at the very end of the line for the cars running.

So much for the Choker...er I mean Croker. :D

I'll bet Kat is hiding her face about now...

I thought she did very good. She just got turned and that was it.

I am sure that you failed to consider that after she stepped out of line the first time and no one went with her and she went back a couple of positions that was a wise move rather then following Gerhardt the all time race winner . No doubt that when she stepped out of line the second time on lap 23 and no one went with her and went back five positions you thought she was "doing very good " again . The third time she stepped out of line on lap 55 and went back many many positions I am sure you thought she was doing good again.

When she " got turned " as you put it Krista Voda , a long time NASCAR expert reported from Crockers pit that she had spun the tires and got loose on the restart. I am not sure how you spin the tires on a 2.5 mile track with a 308 gear and a CDI that will only let you turn 8800 rpm but apparently she found a way to do it .

I will repeat again Crocker was her own worst enemy

See only a hard hitting reporter like Krista Voda could bring you that news right from Crocker's pit. The other reporters were probably at the Bud stand getting their news. :)

:) Thanks, I haven't had a really good laugh in a few days. :)

As for Crocker's racing, I hope she watched the #38 in the shootout. I believe she could learn something there.
