My significantly cuter other, IronMan28, and I have just cleared hurdle number 1 in our effort to buy a house!!!! Still a lot of negotiating, fretting, and hoop-jumping to do, but we are on our way! If we get this place, the party's on - come on over! And bring a box or two off that truck as you come in, if you don't mind...

TN-Ward-Fan,

I'm in the middle of buying a house and it's a pain in the arse. I've had two bought right out from under me and now I'm just thinking about buying some land and building one. Seems a lot easier to me. But then you have to pick out the tile, the carpet, the wallpaper, what type of fixtures you want, and on and on............blah!

Good luck to ya, I hope you have better luck than I have.

I think I'll just dig a hole and live like a hobbit.

Man, I can't even begin to comprehend the nerve wracking experience it must be to do that.

Keep yer chin up, it'll work for ya.

I'm thinking about going by the dumpster at wall mart, and see if I can find a two story box,This ranch box is just getting to confining.:p Good luck TnWard,I am glad it's you my friend.I hate that paperwork nightmare.

Best of luck TNWARD, themove can be tough but is soooooo worth it:) :)

We bought a little over a year ago and LOVE IT.

Yeah, good luck buddy. You're going to need it dealing with that nightmare!Should be worth it in the long term though.:)

You will find it is a great move a few years down the road. my only advice is to take a deep breath and try and relax when dealing with the bankers. they tell you how easy everything is and then attack like a shark. when I bought my house they wanted to collect money from me for property tax and insurance and some other stuff. I let them have the property tax deal but refused on the others, when they got insitant I asked the vultures if they wanted to add my phone bill, utilities, credit cards and everything else I pay monthly to the payment and at that point told them my way or no way. they backed off. and don't let the vultures kinda sorta push a little old half percent into a loan.
Boy does it sound like I hate bankers?

Good luck TN Ward fan! They sure make you jump through some hoops!

Just refinanced mine and it was appraised A LOT over what I paid. IMO a great investment in these troubled stock market times. Good move!

HATE BANKS, but then my mortgage is not thru one.

Hope this is not where you're moving, hehehe

'preciate it y'all. I bought one about 6 years ago. Actually, I bought a piece of land where was was to be built, got to work with the builder to pick colors, flooring etc. I knew I wasn't gonna keep that one over five years before returning to my beloved mountains. Well, as it turns out, I sold that house and moved here when the opportunity arose, only to get divorced about 6 months later. Guess she didn't like it here...

Anywho, I've been through this before, and it ain't the most pleasant thing a body can endure. Like I said, we still have a long row to hoe, but the first big obstacle has been cleared. And you know what they say about hurdles...it really hurts a fellow to land on one. :(

NOW all we gotta do is figure out how we're gonna combine the Wood Brothers' and the M&M/Sadler and the Caterpillar paint schemes when it comes time to paint the house!

Ummmm TWF, did your muffin dream have someting funny in them? The house paint scheme will remain about the same as it is. ;)

Thank you all for your support. This is my first time buying a home so I am nervous and have lots of questions. TWF is helping as much as he can.

Congratulations.

I sell houses for a living. After you get the right one picked out, the fun starts. The banker, appraiser, building inspector, pest control, septic engineer, Department of Environmental Conservation all will do what they can to be sure the deal does not close. :)

Actually it's really not all that bad. Just be sure you watch each step closely.

Good luck wardfan. Just bought our 3rd not too long ago and selling our 2nd tonight. After the 1st one its a breeze.

Best of luck TNWardFan. Nothing beats owning your own place. Well worth any hurdle you may have to cross. Enjoy your new place.

Ward Fan and IronMan, good luck. It's worth all the hoop-jumping.

Have lived in this house since 1979. It will take an 18-wheeler, or two, to get all my stuff out when I eventually move.

Yes, TRL, I'm in the same boat. Can't sell my house 'cause it has 25 years of clutter cluttering up the clutter.

I need to add a paragraph to my will: "Please bulldoze all this mess right down on top of me after the taxidermist puts my stuffed body in the easy chair"

Alaska, I hear that!

I do have one more move to make --- some day --- if the hubby ever gets the house finished. LOL

Part of the moving job includes most of a car in my attic storage!

If we get this place, I'm nailing the stuff to the floor, and ain't leaving till they carry me out toes up.
