Cue the word "retirement"

Back problems aren't something to mess with. One more hard crash and he may be in a wheelchair. Jeff: You have nothing left to prove. You've done good.

That goes for anyone in a race car... Not just a 42 year old with previous back issues.

Back problems is definitely serious. But I dont expect it to retire Gordon he is just to strong at the current time. Even if his results were a little weaker I would say the same.
I am not sure of his contract status but if retires before the end of 2017, I would be surprised.

As an aside there is no excuse for Nascar not having 100 percent safe barriers on both the outer and inner perimeters at the tracks now. With the new tv contracts the money shouldn't be a factor. That would help insure that Jeff doesn't aggravate the problem any more, and prevent more Hamlin type of events for all of the drivers.

Jeff is having fun and it's important to him that his kids remember seeing him be successful. He'll push himself to maintain this for as long as possible.

Of course he has back problems, have you seen the women he's been with?

Denny's injuries were more serious and he's still out there.

"Since I already have my spine broken up into two pieces, if you get in another wreck, those pieces will then shatter and get into your spinal cord and you have paralysis issues," Hamlin explained.
