Michael Waltrip rejects stepping aside, says he has'best shot' at qualifying car

AVONDALE, Ariz. - Toyota owner and driver Michael Waltrip said he has thought abut stepping out of his No. 55 for another driver.

Waltrip, who has made just one race so far this season, told a group of reporters Thursday before qualifying that he had considered that idea in addition to the crew chief changes he has made at his organization.

“Other than considering (stepping out), it hasn’t really gotten all that far with me,” Wltrip said. “I believe I have the right people in place in management.

“I know that my focus is sharp on race day and when I’m here (for qualifying). I feel like I’ve got the best shot of anybody that I know around here of getting the car in the race.”
 
One rumor has it that Bill Elliott will step into the #44 car if it has to use it's final provisional and moving Jarrett into the #55 to get more out of it. Then again, DJ isn't setting the world on fire with his qualifying. Maybe they should move Reutimann to the #55, DJ to the #15 and Mikey to the #00. Hmmm, maybe they actually did that, only changing the numbers...
