Another solid qualifing run by mikey....I see big changes in the future for MWR.

so how long does it take before Napa gets fed up with this?

if DJ doesnt watch it...he's going to run out of past champion pros and is going to start missing races also.

Or Toyota??

looks like 6 toyota's arent making the race?

that honestly tells me they didnt do their homework right. Ive always thought it didnt make much sense for them to come in right now...they should have waited until the COT was full time.

dodge did a TON better than this when they came back to the sport a few years back.

I feel bad for Mikey, he was actually doing better on that second lap there, but i guess it wasn't enough.

Why dont I see Bobby Labonte there......,is he using points to make the field?

Glad to see Ward make it!

Bobby Lab wrecked before the green came out. :(

Mikey is going to turn Jarrett into another DW. He will miss race #7 and many more. He can only use his saftey net 6 times.

Yep, its 3 down 3 to go..and from them on is bye bye free passes..

Not so quick there reck. While it's true that the past champion's provisional can only be used 6 times total, after the fifth race, Jarrett will be able to be locked into the field as long as he stays in the top 35. At present, he is at 28. That will then give another spot for Toyota to try and grab, as long as DJ is able to stay in the top 35.

It is probably hell points racing when you are in 28th place, but the same can be said about 34th and 35th. And if you look at all those top names that are further back than that and you will see some really hard points driving in the next couple of races.

Ohhh..right you are. Good point.

Now if DJ manages to stay in the top 35 in points, look for NASCAR to make another "tweak" to the top 35 in points.

From what I'm observing it appears that Junior SHOULD be concerned as he is 40th in points.

Kat, Junior has been asked about this and he said that he isn't worried. Most of the time, Jr is able to get good enough qualifying times that he'd probably make it if he was still outside the top 35, but there have only been two races yet and he's DNFed both of them and that has kept him so far in the hole. With only decent runs in the next three races, I'm sure he will be able to secure an automatic qualifying position

reck, why do you think NASCAR will tweak the rules if DJ has to continue to use a provisional to make the races. The rule giving the top 35 guarenteed spots was made specifically for that purpose. I'm sure they don't want UPS to drop out of NASCAR any time soon. Plus, they want to make sure that at least one or two Toyotas make the field. Blaney is the one that needs to pick up his performance if he is going to still be able to make the field.

If anything, I think that NASCAR just might tweak the rules in favor of the Toyotas so that more of them will make the field. Just my opinion on this matter. While there are those of us who couldn't care less about Mikey and his troup, there's lots and lots of sponsorship money that could be lost if those teams don't start making the field. NASCAR is always talking about making the cars equal...don't you know.

Jarrett did this to himself, going to a new and unknown team. He has noone to blame but himself. He was also sucking REALLY bad the last few years.

Jr. Not qualifying? Give me a break... Nascar would change every rule in the book before that happens

Just a though CB.

It just occured to me that if he keeps making the field using only the champion's provisional and in so doing making it to the top 35, there would be a change.

I mean lets face it, its not fair for the ones who bust their behind trying to make it. Take AJ Allmendinger for example, he actually would had made it on time have not DJ use his lucky charm. Again, this is just my opinion, i could be wrong. ;)

Toyota Teams?

Seriously, from someone who actually likes Michael Waltrip, how can you have a fully funded team with state of the art equipment, great sponsers and major manufacturer backing (MWR & Red Bull) and not qualify for these races? I'm not trying to Mikey-bash, I guess I just feel like there is some kind of problem here. Are there just too many teams? Too little development work on Toyota's part? Or, have they been fast enough and just loosing out on not being in the top 35 owners points?

Someone brought up Dodge doing well in their first year, I think we've got to go back to the prime Dodge mover --- Ray Evernham.

I think Ray was much more on top of things that Michael. Ray was a crew chief in an owner's body. Michael --- well, let's just leave that alone. ;)

If you remember right Dodge didn't exactly light the world on fire when they came back. I believe Bill Elliot got the pole for Daytona, but it wasn't until late in the season that they got their first victory in a rain shortened race if i remeber right. They had a lot of tough going, but what i can't understand is why Toyota is struggling with horsepower, that has been a strong point in CTS and other racing divisions. I for one like Mikey, this certainly is very stressful for that organization, it will be very tough for them to make the top 35 in points. Being the big team for Toyota it certainly does not bode well for Mikey or his sponsors. I would assume their will be many internal changes at MWR, i for one hope they can change things around.
