Cup RACE thread --- Indy

Watching this video, along with the one of Junior's team kissing the bricks after the Xfinity race, I noticed at the end that a different hat was given to each of the participants, indicating that the proverbial "hat dance" of major sponsors apparently has moved from victory lane to the brick kissing "ceremony" originated spontaneously many years ago by Dale Jarrett and crew chief Todd Parrott.

If these guys now have to kiss the bricks a half dozen times or more as part of a photo opportunity for sponsors, the whole thing just doesn't seem as meaningful as it once did.

Think that has more to do that these cars drive stiff.
I have to agree here. Happy for Bubba but was there a single on-track pass for the lead? I watched Chase's in-car all day and he was consistently turning top-5 lap times saying the balance was good but as soon as you get behind another car all they need to do it aero block and it takes 2-3 laps to recover and get your momentum back. Need more HP. I have complained a lot about this but look at the stands people. I found the strategy to be mildly interesting but it was a very boring race mostly. Don't want that in a crown-jewel.

Indianapolis Motor speedway is the worst track on the schedule for passing out of all of the tracks the series races on. Year after year of statistics point that out. It doesn't matter which car, which motor or which tire.

I am not suggesting Indy has ever been known for a lot of passing but I do recall some really good entertaining races there. The issues are all magnified by this car IMO though. I find Kyle Larson to be a much more talented race car driver than Bubba Wallace and he could not pass him because no one can pass the leader. All day it did not matter who got out front. I just saw on social media a person who I have known since I was a child who was REALLY into racing in general and a huge NASCAR fan and they finally quit yesterday. Wondering out loud why they watch. The stands appear empty. While Indy has never been the best racing it was good enough once to fill the place. Look at highlights of Bill's 02 win. PACKED. Indy cars still fill the place. NASCAR has problems they need to fix. This car is not much short of a disaster.

If the track isn’t a 5 lane wide mile and a half, you’re just not getting a good race with this car. The only way you’re getting an entertaining race for 3/4 of the schedule is having 5 overtimes and a bunch of wrecks. Is that really what we want?

Yeah when a track is huge and holds over 250,000 people, 70,000 will seem empty.
I was a bit surprised IMS had as many grandstands open as they did. I saw several with just a smattering of people. I know tracks want to have a crowd at the S/F line because that looks great on TV. In my opinion, the best views at IMS are in the corners. Maybe open just part of the front stretch and a couple of corners, and force everyone into those areas.

The corners are the cheap seats with no cover. It was very hot. Most people sat under cover on the front stretch.

No - I don't want that. I just want the leader to not be at such an advantage that no one can pass them. It's also frustrating to me that XFINITY is putting on a better show than CUP given that they do not have a lot the same issues in the older style car. NASCAR needs to turn back the clock a little and go back to a more old-style car. Less aero dependent, more HP and softer tires.

I am happy for Bubba. He's not gonna ever be my favorite (hooking guys at superspeedways is a huge nono for me) but I appreciate that his very presence is a litmus test of who is garbage and who is at least bordering on a decent human. He deals with a lot I'm sure and as such this is nice to see.
