What would guys/gals think say NASCAR doing like F1 and putting a time limit to the races instead of racing to 500 miles? Or could you all still enjoy NASCAR racing if they ran 400 miles instead of 500 miles on the ovals?

Might be a good idea , certainly would change pit strategy wouldn't it?

i'm all for it. in cases where they haven't finished halfway due to weather then it should be rescheduled for the following day.

They've done it before. Not exactly a time limit, but they've had to cut races to finish on-time before darkness.

It would be a good idea for the megatracks that don't have lights (Dover, Kansas, Indianapolis, Talladega).

Yea it would, also with the time limit there wouldn't be any hanging in the rear for most of the race then racing like hell the last 50 laps. I would think with a time limit they would be racing every lap. As it is know it's like basketball all you need to watch is the last 2 minutes to see who's won. With NASCAR it's last 20 laps to see who's won.

I don't see where that changes your scenario. Or, are you suggesting they take away everyone's watches? If it's a 2 hour race then they race in the back for an hour and a half before they start their drive to the front.

If there was a time limit drivers would drive the entire race because they wouldn't want to be in the back in case of a crash that could take them out of the race plus it's a complete change of their minds set. It works for F1 I think it can work for NASCAR as well.

Funny thing about these boards, not just this one but lots of them. People get all indignant about "Tradition" how "The Evil Empire" called NASCAR has no respect for Tradition, they want to keep changing tradition and you the fans are fed up with it you want "Tradition" honored and respected, but yet you get these grandiose ideas and want to "change" NASCAR but that's OK I suppose.

Isn't the Daytona 500, and many of the others tradition?

What are we going to have, the Daytona 2hr. because I don't have the attention span?

Keep them the length they are. Not for tradition, but I like the way a single move affects the whole day. How many times has it taken a driver 200 laps to get a lap back then move to the top ten.
Of course it's a lot better to watch in person than on TV.

They have cut races in the past from 500 miles down to 400 miles and this last race was one of them. I rather like the length limit rather than a time limit. Also, NASCAR is so different than F1 that changing the even to a time limit is silly. F1 gives out totally different points, which makes a big difference.
