Whoever came up with the Chase points system definatly grew up with the Nintendo "Reset Button" mentality
First 26 are a waste now.

Yep. usually, nobody gets screwed more than the points leaders, and the laggers get a big reward. It's like championship communism.

There hasn't been a year tho that the reset has made a HUGE difference. Performance is performance, and whoever was doing well in the reg. season will do well in the chase. The cream always rises to the top!

FAN24

Correct.Never had a nobody do anything with the current chase rules

What? As a Gordon fan, you should know better. Without the reset, we'd be calling him six time.

I understand that. What I am saying is that there has never been a HUGE surprise come up and win the chase. Someone who has done nothing in the regular season has never came out of the blue and won it.

Don't get me wrong, I would love it if we woulda kept the old point system and he woulda picked up the cup in 2004 and 2007 lol

You forgot thanks to.

Actually I was refering to Prior to Richmond the points leader had roughly a 150 point lead on 12th place ( which is huge with the new points system ) now its ONLY 12 points.

Must be disappointing to run hard for 26 races then instantly loose that many points.

I really do like the New points system though!

1st gets 43 points down to 43rd getting 1 point.

Bonus's are:
Any driver who leads a lap during a race receives one bonus point.
The driver who leads the most laps receives an additional one bonus point.
And My Favorite!!!
The race WINNER receives THREE Bonus Points!

I never get this. How do you know this? Some people could play it out differently and wait until the chase to put out there best stuff for all you know. It's now a different way to win championships. Why bring your BEST at the start? Just bring something good enough to get in the chase maybe pick up a win here and there and then BAM the chase starts and you use the best you got. Simple as that and very smart thing to do also.

I think you have a point here....of course we can always look at how folks finish and say "under the old points system they would have _____ number of points." If the 2004 and 2007 season played out the same way under the old system, Gordon would be a 6 time champ....however, there is nothing to say that under the old points system that the 48 or someone else might have brought a different strategy as opposed to the chase system and still won...you never know i guess.

JJ had 4 shots at it under the old system and never got one. Reality is, the 24/48 teams were doing the same thing's, no matter what the system.

When NASCAR decided to pick 4 of JJ's most dominate tracks for the chase, the deal was sealed. Every driver has favorite tracks, right from the start of their careers.

As bad as he's been running he's still managed to put all but 9 other teams behind him this season. Two of which made the Chase as a wildcard.

So Jimmie was supposed to Win the Championship his rookie year and the three following years?

They did'nt really have a choice did they? Jimmie Dominates at almost all the tracks.
