I say let grown ups talk like grown ups.
Responsible and respectable grownups and teenagers, do not need to use profanity to express themselves.
That being said, it is difficult for me, at times to make explanations of my personal feelings when angered without using "expletives deleted".
This I am working on and have been for a long time with some success. There is still a long way to go and my time on earth might run out before this fault becomes reality. Although my "expletives deleted" is usually confined to simple words like the name of the Devil's home and the partition constructed between a lake or pond and the river or stream.
As for NASCAR, and the media, it is a competitive sport and the media is "Johnny-on-the-spot" to stick a microphone in the competitors face within minutes of an incident. Part of the sport is the colorful explanation offered during the interview and many times, the regret of comments made by the one interviewed is instantaneous.
The media is to quick to be invasive and they must share some of the responsibility in these incidents. Of course, the ininterview with Harvick was not invasive since he stood on top of a car to express his displeasure with Rudd. That was an open invitation to all the media.
NASCAR should continue to fine those associated within the organization for profanity in an effort to maintain a modicum of decorum.
Kids hearing drivers and crew members unleash a list of "expletives deleted" might get the idea this is how "grownups" act, when in fact, these same people are being declared a part of the "NASCAR family". Thier use of profanity does not set a good example.
The question might be, what is profanity? And a simple answer could be, it is all in the eyes of the beholder. To some, words you or I might find offensive are to others an acceptable and frequently used part of the every day language. This is where respect for others enters the equation.
Of course, if you are really into profanity, once again profanity being in the eyes of the beholder, go see the movie, "Bad Santa".
This movie should win an Academy Award for containing the most foul language since the invention of motion pictures.
But that, IMHO.
