I do wish drivers who win races would stop doing burnouts.
This topic has been beat to death on this forum, but, in my opinion, burnouts are the most rediculous, innane, worthless act a professional driver winning a race could perform.

A class act that really makes a statement is the winning driver taking the checkered flag, holding it out the window and driving around the track as a salute to the fans.
That is more appealing (and better for the environment) than the childish demonstration of doing donuts or a burnout. Performances usually associated and expected from teenagers.

The door is open for criticism of this commentary. :bounce:

dont they also do the victory lap with the flag aswell? a race without a burnouts would be just doll and boring. just my opinion.

I'm with you on this one Whizzer.

Burnouts are so juvenile. So refreshing when a more mature driver wins a race and does a reverse victory lap.

I'll agree with ya Wizzer.

Dull and borring? if you watch a race for 3-4 hours and call it dull and borring if there is not a burn out, then your crazy.

But yet, if i was to win on a track with a nice big infiled, i may do a little spin around in the grass, but nothing major. Would not do it on the pavement, because it is hard on the motors, trannys, and rear ends. Someone is goin to blow a motor up one day doing one, and im going to laph.

Dale Sr. sent a Bill to Dale Jr when he won once and did a burnout, as should all owners to there drivers.

Can't believe that as a 58 year old, I'm in the minority, even with the younger set. I like the burnout and in fact, enjoy it, wishing that I could witness it in person. For years now, other sports have allowed their players to express their emotions on the field and it's about time that NASCAR does the same. Before you go off on me, I will say that there is of course a chance to overdo it. As we all are aware, this sport is so emotional, especially for the fans, that the drivers want to do something for them, at the same time, letting out some of the pent up emotions that they have. We hate it when they do that when they are ticked, taking out their frustrations on other drivers, or...we love it or wish that they did take out their frustrations on other drivers (witness what people have said this afternoon when Kenny Schrader was spun by a raw rookie). I find it funny that there are people who will criticize a driver for doing something to another driver for revenge, but will publicly tell of their dissapointment when a driver DOESN'T take revenge on another driver. But...back to the burnout, when I see them, I can only imagine the smell and if you've ever smelled burning tire rubber, you know what I mean. The only thing that is better is the smell of racing fuel. :growl:

not to mention it's not just limited to nascar. I'll agree with buck on this term.

That's it. Every town in America that hosts a race where a burnout takes place will develop a hole in the ozone and I'll end up dying young at the track due to enviromental reasons. Damn the burnouts!!!!!!!!!! Don't care, still love'em.

I like the burnouts. Like Buckaroo said, let em celebrate and blow off some steam.

I'd rather watch 100 burnouts than what most NFL guys do in the endzone! dancing/acting/etc ...now THAT's just dumb.

Jimmie's burnout was kind of weak. If you can't do one where the entire stands are covered in smoke then you should just leave it out. A spin thru the grass, a drive around the track, or a drive over your competitor who tried to keep you from winning are all substitutable. But, once driver's started doing burnouts it became tradition with each trying to outdo the other.
Now Kurt and his snow angel has to go.

Redskins player got penalized for celebrating when he scored a touchdown with "Unsportsmanlike conduct." I was HOT after that one

I was at Dover and it was nice to see Burton do a polish victory lap. The burnout's are nice when they happen on a limited basis, like after an exciting come from behind race or something. Now they're just plain stupid. How about some originality, like Spider-man Stewart or Cartwheel Carl. :D

.............A spin thru the grass,...............

Another senseless display of distruction of property.

Bad enough they tear up their owner's race cars with the burnouts and create unnecessary work for the guys in the shop.

But to senslessly tear up the grass on the track is just dumb. Another childish display by the "look at me" generation.

I'm kind of on the fence with this one.

I enjoy a few well-done donuts, ala Zanardi's --- but at the same time, I'm cringing because of the damage being done to the car's mechanicals.

I really do enjoy seeing the flag carried around because it takes me back to the olden days at the local dirt track ---- where I spent many a Saturday night.

Like it or not, it still is what it is....sensless damage of the environment, needleess destruction of other peoples property and a complete waste of a natural resource.

Providing us with entertainment costs enough as it is.

Isn't the price of gasoline high enough now?

I'm cringing because of the damage being done to the car's mechanicals.

How much of the car run on Sunday is reused for the next race? I'd guess very little. The motors, drive train, and suspension parts are probably all replaced. Especially by the top teams. Now the back runners (Shelmerdine, Morgan, etc) will reuse parts, or even buy used parts. But the top teams even cut the bodies off depending on the track they want to take that chassis to. This isn't the local dirt track where they have to be overly concerned with the price of parts.

Motors get rebuilt several times and suspension parts get reused after cleanup, inspection and maybe a magnaflux.

The multi car teams have charts for where each motor is to be used at which track. And with that, you have a backup engine on the hauler. The engines shop has a schedule as to when each motor is due to be back in service for which race. Senseless distruction of an engine just adds to the engine buliders schedule and is an unnecssary waste of man-hours as well as money.

The rive train is reused. Trannys get necessary gear replacements most likely done by the company that makes the tranny. A rear gear will only last one race at Martinsville but for many other tracks they are gone over and necessary parts are replaced and the rear end put back in service.

These multi car teams may have lots of money but they don't have an unlimited supply of it. Throwing a rod or swallowing a valve for the sake of doing a "look at me" burnout is not cost effective for any team.

We are not just talking about equipment. We are also talking man-hours and deadlines for bringing equipment back into service.

As for the race tracks, As Patrick9999 said here....... "Providing us with entertainment costs enough as it is."

The cost of all that torn up grass is just added on to next year's ticket prices. So the fan ends up paying for it one way or another.

After my wench and I have intimate relations, I like to go in the back and do doughnuts on my moped. Sometimes I forget to get dressed first.

Dem boys over in the NHRA better quit them burnouts regardless if it is a safety issue. They are raising the core temperature of the earth by .00000000531 degrees each time they do that.

i enjoy burnouts.. i dont see whats so bad about them?? they're harmless, besides, they just won a race and want to have a little more fun..

I also enjoy burnouts! I dont see whats so bad about them either. Drivers just finish a long race and like to celebrate and they know the fans love it! :beerbang:

LOL don't hold your breath I hear there's over 1000 starts and no wins yet!:D

I was kinda like the Michael Waltrip of the bedroom until he had to go and win something. Maybe it's because we usually have a green, white, checkers in the bedroom and usually the green and white are the same.

burn outs

Guess if I put in my 2cents ,I don't care much for the burnouts either. I do like the Carl Edwards backflips though. Maybe they could set a trampolene out on the track for those who can't do the backflips and let them jump up and down on it, Or maybe even hire Mark Martins stunt man to do them for them.

I have to agree with TRL , the spin around the track with the checkered out the window brings back childhood memories with my dad at Stafford Speedway watching the old modified coupes. An occasional well done burnout after a very close finish is ok, but i'm not really a huge fan of the burnout.

I don't care for the burnouts. I also don't care for football players doing a shimmy in the end zone or slowing down when within 10 yards of a touchdown and waltzing across the goal line. It is all a little childish to me. Everyone is entitled to their likes and dislike, I guess. :)

Well, one thing is for sure, they will continue until either the owners tell their drivers not to do it anymore or NASCAR puts a stop to it. As for it costing the owners money, one would think that if that were a major factor, they would have already told their drivers not to do them.

I agree with what someone said, that once it got started, everyone wanted to do it. I like the idea of a driver coming up with his own little celebration such as Carl's flip, Kurt's snowangel, Tony's copy of climbing the fence, etc. I don't remember who started the burnouts, but as I said, I don't mind them but it would be better if only a few of them did it and did it their way. We've seen different types of burnouts such as putting the nose of the car against the wall and just spinning those wheels. Doughnuts are another type as is dog tracking down the track with the smoke pouring out the back. It would be like making it their signature.

:D It's your dream, you can have it anyway you want:D

Talking about doing donuts, does anyone else watch monster trucks? Holy cow. Unbelievable. During the freestyle program. They call them cyclones. Makes me dizzy just watching on TV.

Yep, We get the "monster jam" here at 5:30, I think....I watch it on and off...pretty cool stuff.
