Dad

Prayers for your family.

That was very touching.

That was probably the most beautiful, touching thing I have ever seen and heard.
Thank you so much for sharing and you folk are now in my Prayer list.
My Mom and Dad are both in the Great Beyond, but that brought back so many wonderful memories, and tears.
Again, THANK YOU!

No not yet.
Dad is scheduled for another surgery on July 5th, or sooner if someone else cancels (can't imagine someone cancelling needed cancer surgery). Supposed to be a 10 hour surgery.
I hope the 5th comes soon, he's in a lot of pain and can only eat soup and drink Ensure.

Prayers and healing thoughts to you and your family.

Please try to keep us updated.

I just got word that from the hospital that my dad's surgery (today) for the tumor in his throat was successful. He's in ICU recovering for the next few days. The tumor was not "broken open" and the doctor's believe they got it all. It was an eleven hour surgery, they had to remove his larynx (voice box). He will talk with a special device. He went through 4 hours of reconstructive surgery, but he will not require a feeding tube and will be able to eat on his own.
It feels like somebody lifted the world off of my shoulders.
Thank you all for your prayers! They were certainly answered.

I'm glad he is getting better, It sure sucks what people have to go through. Life sure can be hard.

Speaking of miracles...
I went to see my dad over the weekend, post-op.
He is at UCLA, a world renowned hospital.
After they opened him up things got better. He got a scar from behind his ear to the front of his neck.
They had to take his airway (Adam's apple and trach bones). They were able to save part of his voice box, so he will be able to speak without the buzzy box. They removed a large-egg-sized tumor from the inside of his esophagus. There were also able to save enough of his esophagus that he will be able to eat through the mouth as opposed to a feeding tube as previously thought. I'm not a chef, I'm a cook. I worked in a restaurant for 10 years. I will certainly fatten him up. He weighed 109 lbs., pre-op.
He's doing so well that he is already out of ICU. He will have to re-learn to talk because of the stainless steel valve in his throat and because of the trach.
He said ( wrote, he can't speak yet) he will be ready to sit in our season seats at California Speedway in Sept.

Miracles can't happen without prayer.

Great news Bobby! Will Dad have to do chemo?
How is Mom Holding up?

No, Kat, he won't have to go through chemo :) :)
My mom is holding up well. My parents got divorced when I was 10 years old, but they still care about each other and they got us kids (me & my two older sisters) in common.
It is great news. I'm so happy (and lucky) to have a second chance to make sure I spend time with my dad.
Thank you for asking.

Bobby, I went thru close to the same thing with my parents, but ended up getting much closer with them both after their divorce. I ended up spending a lot of time with Dad when my 1st marriage was going down the sewer and we went fishing, (I fished, he encouraged me).
Hold your parents close to your heart, make great memories, and savor the time you have left together.

That's good advice, kat.
Some folks aren't lucky enough to get a second chance and they often regret not doing or not saying something.

I haven't had the stability to finish this thread. It seems that cancer has been a topic here lately.
My dad went to the hospital by ambulance around the end of December complaining of back pain. He also had difficulty breathing.
They scanned him and found 3 large malignant masses in his body. 1 on his left lung, 1 on his liver and 1 on his pancreas. After a couple of days he got worse and they moved him to ICU where they put a drain into his thoracic cavity to drain the left lung.
The doctor told us that there was no way to remove or combat the type and amount of cancer in my dad's body.
My father was moved to the Hospice wing of the hospital and put on comfort meds (Ativan and Morphine).
My sister and I were at my father's side when he passed away on January 8th.
This has been the most difficult time of my life.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support.

Bobby, I'm so sorry for your loss.

We have dealt and dealing with cancer. I had so hoped he was one of the lucky ones who had beat it.
