Dale Earnhardt Jr. can still clinch a Chase spot if the following were to happen.....

If Kevin Harvick finishes lower than 17th and Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, & Tony Stewart finish 9th or worse and Earnhardt Jr. gets 700 points for finishing better than 44th @ Richmond.

If your last name begins with the letters 'Earnhardt' you will be awarded 400 point bonus for finishing the Air Guard 400 @ Richmond with a finish no lower than 43rd.

Brian France must pass a emergency, special Earnhardt exemption to include the top 20 into the top 12 this 2010 season. Even then, this one could still be doubtful.

Oh well, maybe next year fellow Jr. fans. I know there's at least one more of you out there..... I've seen the shirt.

I'm a Jr fan. Why does everybody make such a big deal about him not making the chase? Where's your thread for the clinch scenario for Mark Martin, Kasey Kahne, Juan Montoya, Brad Keselowski or Ryan Newman and Jamie McMurray? -_-

I think us Jr fans know he isn't going to make the chase. We don't seem to be as obsessed with it as everyone else is.

Try not to take it so seriously. I'm a Jr. fan too as I stated in the first post. Relax.

Chances that Jr. will never make the chase again but continue to be the most popular and wealthiest drivers? Looking pretty damn good.

i dunno, i'd bet he makes it sometime if it's expanded to 16. <g> that's damn near half the guaranteed 35. of course, all of this is in jest. i hope he makes it again in whatever format evolves. anyone for drawing straws?

Personally, I like Dale jr., he seems pretty humble and cool.

As a driver though,he lacks a lot. He needs to reconsider his priorities and separate himself with a quickness from HMS.

Thats the only chance he has to be taken seriously as a driver rather than just a t-shirt and cap icon.

That.

I honestly think that if he went to RCR, he'd be more relaxed and start winning again. It will probably take a year, maybe two to let the whole, " Jr, how does it feel to drive for your daddy's old boss?" or "Jr, will you drive a black #3?"

He'll end up back at DEI mark my words.....or whatever its called now

get rid of the green car :)

everybody knows green race cars are unlucky

Green Car was a champion in 2000. Runner up the year before.

Don't mistake car color for talent!

Is it Jr or HMS? The #5 has always been the red headed stepchild. Did great last year, dismal this year. The 24 is having problems. Won 6 races in '07, none in '08, one in '09 and none so far this year. Although he did make the chase this year. But DuPont is cutting back their sponsorship next year on a 4time champ no less.

The #48 is the only car in a 4 car team that's won on a somewhat regular basis.

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

I see no need to bash Jr., I mean he is what he is.

However, I get so tired of hearing a couple things. The first being what will it take to get him "back to his winning ways." What winning ways? He has won 18 races in ten years. His best year was 2004. People make it sound like he used to win like Johnson or someone...it is ridiculous.

The second thing I get tired of hearing is it is everyone's fault but his. The big thing to blame now is Hendrick motorsports. I am sorry to say that Jr. would be performing around the same level he is now no matter WHERE he is at.

Again, I have nothing against Jr. I just get tired of hearing these two things.

In 2004 he was winning like Johnson. If he hadn't dropped the "S" bomb in victory lane at Tally, and got greedy at Atlanta, he prpbably would have won the title.

I agree with this. :beerbang:

It Really Could Have Been NASCAR’s Best Chase Ever

If only.....

NASCAR missed a golden opportunity. If they had merely expanded the Chase field to the top-20 drivers in points, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. would have made the Chase this time around. And based off the fourth-place performance that he turned in, he would be heading into Dover sixth in points, only 70 markers out of the lead.

Two races with Danica driving and Jr. in the top 10 in points? Dover could have been the best weekend ever!

What's the point of the playoff system if we include everyone and their grandma? There are 8 division in the NFL, four AFC and four NFC. Which means only eight team (and two wildcards from each division) makes it into the playoff. That's 12 teams total that makes it into the playoffs.

I'm sorry, but maybe if Dale Jr. and his crew chief have worked harder in trying to build a working relationship that Johnson has with Knaus, they probably would be in the top 12, but they aren't, so deal.

So basically, all nascar has to do is make a claus in the rules that says the sports most voted on popular driver clinches that coveted 13th spot in the play-offs. Then Jr would make it regardless. Sort of like the way a champions provisional works.....:D:D
The reality of it is that he probably wouldn't accept it. But i'm sure Nascar has thought about it....
