Quote:

“I’d rather be in ... than go through the qualifying deal,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I’m not talking sour grapes. That qualifying [race] is a mess for the all-star race. It’s not much fun as a driver.

“We’ve got practice and run that race, two 20-lappers and we’ll have a good time doing it. It’s no pressure. I don’t care to run the all-star race one way or the other. If I’m in it, I’m in it. If not, I’ll go home and drink some beer and be fine.”

While he acknowledges that an appearance in the all-star race would be a plus for his team’s sponsors and his fans, Earnhardt Jr. noted that the event doesn’t award points.

“If I get in there, I’m going to race hard,” he said. “If I don’t, it ain’t going to break my heart."

I heard someone here say he still has to finish on the lead lap, regardless of the fan vote outcome.
If true, I'm not counting chickens.

#88

They have a special paint skeem for the Allstar Race for #88

That or hes trying to get the fans to calm down again. They are who is making it a big deal that hes not in the race. They got a long summer coming up. An early night probably wouldnt be a bad thing for him. Getting burned out happens to everybody in racing at some point.

I actually think Jr is more concerned with the big picture, the Chase, and the Championship!

I'd like to see him in it but hey if not like he said no big deal. As said above he seem's to be focus on the bigger picture which is a good thing. Hopefully he gets a win or two before the chase starts and then maybe just maybe my dream can come true lol.

if you'd win a friggin race you wouldn't have to go through a qualifying race. guess what jr, i don't care if you're in it either. in fact, just stay home and have a few beers if you can't find enough passion to want to compete, points race or not.

Yup! I would have to say he is focusing on the big picture. :D

If Sr had heard him say that he'd slap the taste out of his mouth.

x2:)

.

NASCAR is now saying that he won't have to finish on the lead lap in the open.

Exactly, he proves once again he doesn't care about racing. I bet his father would be real proud:sarcasm:

NASCAR has changed the Fan Vote rules. You no longer have to finish on the lead lap or finish the race to transfer in via fan vote.

This race is a joke.

I assume by he you mean Jr. Love the way a lot of people think they made that rule only for him. I guess if someone else gets the fan vote they have to be on the lead lap, now that would mean they changed the rule only for Jr.

The driver who accumulates the most votes and finishes the Sprint Showdown qualifying race on the lead lap with a car in raceable condition (as determined by NASCAR competition) will earn a spot in the prestigious NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race field.
UPDATE SPEED just reported during Sprint Showdown practice that the driver who wins the Sprint Fan Vote does NOT have to finish on the lead lap must the car must be in raceable condition (as determined by NASCAR competition).

Where does it say they don't have to finish the race?

Of course not, because Earnhardt (once again, said in a thick Southern drawl) is the most popular driver in NASCAR, Earnhardt Jr = $$$ to NASCAR.

i wouldn't be surprised if that changed in the next year or so. unlike someone like bill elliott, jr. has used his popularity to basically hang out and enjoy the ride. not that he's not a good driver, just that he could be much better with more dedication to the sport. he treats his fans and crew members like shi* with this interview. some people might actually come to the race to see him drive (to his potential). how many of his crew members might bring family and friends to the race to see him drive and enjoy the show? guess now they can say well he's a good driver, when he wants to be.

they will probably give him a rain shortened win at Michigan on Father's Day. "There's a few clouds, Jr. stayed out and is in the lead...Let's call it" Just to ensure he makes the chase.

Why not just have the all-star race be the top 20 in points from the past year and whoever wins the open. Nice and simple

Why can't we just go back to the rule that if you've ever won a Championship or won a race in the past season you can be in the All Star?

This........... Isn't an All-Star anything about being great at what you do. I used to be a Jr fan back when he first showed up. Not anymore.

Does anyone remember the last race Jr won before Michigan when he won on fuel mileage?

Jr did not win that race at Michigan. I was there and he was warned four times by NASCAR to stop passing the pace car. I wonder how any other driver would have faired with that.

Which track was that biffle won on fuel milage? I remember the race ended under caution and he didn't even make it across the line first but they still gave him the win somehow.

Jr actually never wanted to be a driver he was happy being a mechanic at a chevy dealership. He was gonna try it for a while. Once his father died he felt he has to do it. He will have a sponsor and a ride for as long as he wants to race even if he NEVER wins again. He has talen tbut his confidence is easily rattled. I hope he doesn't win a race all year and wins the championship just to piss off the haters. even though he hasn't won hes doing pretty good this year. If he gets his head out of his ass and has a little luck he will win a few races this year.
