Do you think that Dale really ever has to try to win a championship? He ALREADY owns a team and is ALREADY a multimillionaire. IMO I DONT think that he is really trying or really cares. I dont blame him either.

I think all drivers want to win the Championship. But there can only be one winner. Dale jr. Has plenty of time. Oh welcome back.

Jr wants to win the Championship... and so does 42 other drivers.

Hi thank you for welcomeing me back. Anyway where do you think his motivation is? Not money hes already filthy rich and a millionaire in record time so it cant be money.

Most of the drivers are millionairs. Why shoot for championship. Why try to win Super Bowl. Why climb Mt. Everest. Why try to win Stanley Cup. Because It makes you the Best of the Best.

I dont think that all 42 of them out there are trying to win the championship either. Some of thm arent trying and Jr has got to be one of them...he doesnt need to win a championship. I dont blame him.

Trust me TurboDiesel, all drivers want to win a championship... if not, then why be a racecar driver?

I sure as hell wouldn't drive a race car to be rich! I'd do it for the love of the sport... competition, fast cars.. all that good stuff.

In a perfect world maybe everyone is in it for the love of the game...but not this one...sorry.

Thats what I'm in it for... I'm in it for the love of the sport.

TD has a point. Some drivers really don't act like they really want to win a Championship. Some even act like they don't want to win a race. But those drivers are really short lived in the sport.........recent example: Ricky Hendricks. For the most part every driver has dreams of winning at least one Championship.....simply because race drivers are drawn to the sport for the competition. And competition requires a desire to win.

On Dale Jr. I'm sure he's racing for more than just the money. He could retire and become a team owner any time he wants.........but, he chooses not to do that. I believe he's a competitive type...........he wants to win. Not only races but Championships too. And another force that I believe is driving him.........he has a "monkey on his back". As the son of a seven time WC Champion, he has something to prove...........to himself, as well as to the naysayers. Only time will tell if my beliefs are correct. But, I will point to another driver in Cup that races for pretty much the same reasons: Kyle Petty.:)

Hmm, I wouldn't necessarily consider the fact that he's Dale's son to be the monkey...I would consider the monkey to be fans that continually bring up the fact that he's Dale's son.

I often wonder how long it will be before we see Jr win a race where it's not wrapped up with all the drama and fluff of his "dead Daddy".

My opinion is. Opinions are like noses everybody has one. ( except M. Jackson that is. lol )

I said "naysayers" to enclude the fans, Paul. I think, in the back of his mind, he does have something to prove..........to himself, because he is the son of Dale Earnhardt.

I wonder how long too, Paul.:(

I think it will be when he wins that championship. It has to be then because people arn't going to stop reminding him he's Dale sr. son.

I disagree slightly. It's the media, and the fans that are fueling the "he's the son of the late, great Dale Earnhardt" thing. I think it will blow over soon.........hopefully next year. :)

I think that all drivers have that desire to win, and a championship title is part of that. One thing about Winston Cup racing is that it is such a long season and it goes on week after week. During the middle stages of the season, some guys probably do get into a funk and are only there just for the money (because they have to be there), but just put them in a position to win, and the adrenelin kicks in and they are right back to square one, digging for that win. Just as with Rusty this season, he didn't start getting hyper about winning a race until the season began to close. It was then that you could see that he was trying harder, but the results were the same.

As for Jr. having to prove himself...I believe that he's already done that. Oh, he's not a 7 time champ? Hey, there's only one alive anyway, so who's countin'?:)

Let's get fired up!!!

Have you ever seen an interview with Jr after a race he did not win. He is always disappointed. He wants to win every race. He wants to win a championship.

Granted some drivers are not out to win a championship, but they are out to do the best they can. They may be new to the sport and are focused on sperience or seat time, but that is just a build up to challenging for the championship.

It is not about money for Jr. he will never have to worry about money again.

Uhhhh............yeah!:) More that I would have liked to see.:D

Dale Jr needs about 2 to 3 more years till he reaches his maturity. He needs these years,Leave him alone. The cameras won't.;)

No, the cameras won't.:( But, actually, I think he enjoys it.:) The experience will come and then we can say if he's really going to be good in NASCAR.........until then, it's all hype! Look at Matt Kenseth. He's flying way below the radar gaining the same experience.........I think there is going to be quite a rivalry there in a couple years! Fans expect too much from their drivers too soon.......but that's the nature of fans.:)

I'm hanging out...........how was your turkey day? Cutie and I are still full from yesterday!:)

I am just sitting down to a few beers, and friends.Turkey day was ok.Glad it's over though.I just enjoy the time off.:)

If drivers aren't out there trying to win the championship,... then they really aren't race car drivers..

Well some of the "one" race drivers, are just in there to win a race.

If you go in thinking you don't have a shot at winning you have lost before you even started.

"As far as racing, definitely, I want to be champion," Junior said at the start of the year. "I think we have what it takes to win this year -- and if not this year, soon. But I don't see why not this year. We've got all the pieces in place.

"That's my goal. Not only to win a championship, but championships."

===================

See dude, Jr isn't just out there racing... he is out there for that championship.

IMO, Dale Jr. does not have the "drive" that other drivers have. Perhaps it's because he knows he'll have a job tomorrow.

Easy come, easy go.

No offence to the dale jr fans I just dont see him winning a cup in his future. I'm sure hell win several more races though.

Three years in with one year with huge distractions and people are writing him off already. Yet, many of these same people are touting the ROTY this year as having several Championships in his future. Wish I had their crystal balls...........I'd win the California Lottery.:D
