Dale Earnhardt's granddaughter, Karsyn Elledge

She already can give a better interview than Danica, and already knows how to crash a car like her too. But seriously I wish her well in her racing future.

Will open doors? It already has. SHe has Nickelodian as a sponsor. Why is that? Could it be because of her famous grandfather and uncle? While there are kids out there struggling to find enough money to race, she does have a leg up with a high profile sponsor.
I wish her well and hope she becomes a success, rather than a disappointment, in her efforts.
 
Jeff Gordon had good sponsors very young without having anybody famous helping him. If you have the talent and personality they will be there with a contract.

I'm 100% positive there are several people with the Earnhardt last name working a 9-5 job in middle class America. It's just THIS family that has the racing connections. It's not about what you do but who you know.
 
I hope a kid gets every break they can, God love them all.

Life and time will sort her worthiness when she grows up, just let the girl have a good time.
Life isnt fair but that doesn't mean this child should not be allowed to pursue the best opportunities, that idea is a universal standard. Holding her back isnt going to help a poor kid either. If someone is bothered enough about it then just go to the go cart track and start paying the bills for a poor kid, just dont penalize Karsyn who is still a child herself.

I am windbag but one other point: Regardless of the last name, she does have enough charisma to charm most anyone and she could represent a lot of enterprises very well, a sound investment imo.

Oh please. Most people in racing have never had to worry about putting food on the table if they didn't win races. Earnhardt's a legend because he was a man who worked his ass off to get where he is. He had to earn it - unlike a certain driver in a lime green car.

I bow to you as the authority on who is trading on the family name and who isn't . Splitting hairs ,are we ? Seems like everyone else with a racing family name is trading on it while senior was not . Seems odd.

DJ's kid decided he wanted to play golf and basketball instead of racing and Terry's kid found out that he just wasn't interested enough to make the sacrifices it takes to be a good full time race car driver. There were lots of others that decided for one reason or other not to pursue a racing career including Mark Martins kid and Rick Hendrick's grandson who both decided not to race for their own reasons.

I suppose Sr got some benefits from his Dads name most likely experience. But I believe you know he worked his was up without hardly any money.

He was the type that was easily stereotyped as trailer park or white trash. I think you know he was blue collar all the way, and owed everybody while he borrowed his way through the ranks.
 
I dont think Dale Jarrett had a lot of money either when he was working his way through the old BGN series.
According to an old SCR article he was in debt up to six figures in the late 80s financing his racing.

I dont say that to discredit him, I respect the determination. Daddies name gets attention, but the sweat equity was still a big part of the success.
 
Meh, if Karysn wants it bad enough, she'll have the oppurtunity to prove her worth. Just because she'll have the support, doesnt mean she will be successful.
 
I enjoyed her little interview thing she did with Fox; that was cute. Hopefully she'll be successful - she's already seems more personable than Danica.

It's such a silly statement that somebody is trading on the family name . It might get you an interview , but it won't get you a job. Families like the Earnhardts have had heros and duds , and families like the Pettys ,the Allisons , the Waltrips and the Labontes have be the heart and soul of this sport as long as I can remember . I can't hold anyone's last name against them like some folks want to do.
 
Perhaps all Nascar drivers should go only by their first names. Like Cher, Madonna or Prince.
Newer models can be known by the .1, .2, .3, etc designation.

Came to cup, had a good lil kinda competitive run with DEI. Came to HMS, the premier team in the sport, in 2008 and has only won 2 races. If it were any other driver he woulda been canned already. But if Jr gets canned the fans would flip NASCAR upside down, and that's the only reason why Jr. is in the cup series - fans buying his merch.

First off both of them have/had the First name Ralph, Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Sr. - Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Jr., they both chose or was chosen to be called Dale long before each one got into racing, after all every Jr. I know is called by the same name as his father.
