I guess you can call this an addition to Robby 31 is #1's post about silly season. I agree with him on the Mayfield thing. But my question is Does anyone think that Dale Jarretts job security is all that great at Robert Yates Racing? I know he is a past champion and he is the man who brought RYR back to glory but he is struggling a bit and just curious to know what you guys think.

Like Terry Labonte, DJ is a past (somewhat recent) champion. He could pretty much drive well, about as bad as Terry and not have to worry about his job. Alot of what is wrong with DJ are his car setups. He knows and has said that alot of the problems are with the status quo setups he has been getting over the past few years. He said in an interview that his two wins last year and his one win this year were Fatback McSwain and Raymond Fox setups. He has indicated that he wants a leader within his next crew chief that will provide him with the exotic setups that alot of teams are now implementing.

It may be that the standardized body location rules are throwing DJ and the 88 team for a loop. The past notes just won't work and no one has tried thinking out of the box.

Dale is definetely staying, but he is just having problems, I think its that he doesnt have a crew chief. He doesn't does he?

Now one has to wonder if that creates any new problems. DJ gets a crew chief, but Sadler loses a car chief.

Jarrett gets a CC with no experience, and Elliott has to adjust to yet another change from last year.

I might view it differently if Parker had more experience as either a CC or with the Yates organization, but he has neither.

Maybe it will all work out, and DJ has pretty much said he felt the #38 was moving in a better direction than the #88. So he will get a #38 guy to work with him. It may be that Dale and Shawn have been around each other long enough to feel it is a good move.

Needless to say some folks will expect an immediate change in the UPS car's performance, but we shol\uld likely give it at least a month or more............IMO

Well now he does, we will see how the next 10 races go in the 88.

Jarrett is so entrenched in UPS advertising right now that it is very unlikely that you will see him out of the 88 anytime soon. They do have problems though. Twice in the past two races, Jarrett has wrecked himself which is something we rarely saw Jarrett do before.

Hopefully with a new crew chief that can work with the driver, instead of against him, Jarrett might be able to salvage a halfway decent season out of 2003.

Do you think giving up bill elliot for Dale jarrett is a good move in fantasy Leagues. Bill has been hot lately and has climbed into the top 15. I can't see jarrett being this bad for the rest of the year. I think the new crew chief will only help.

The crew chief change will add stability to the 88 team, and Jarrett has a good history at tracks like Charlotte, Texas and other cookie cutters. Jarrett wrecked in his last two races and that's what has caused him to plummet in the standings the past two weeks. Elliott may seem hot right now, but still barely in the top 20 and if you look at his history at Charlotte he hasn't had any top tens in a Dodge except in the Winston. Both Elliott and Jarrett kicked butt at Dover last year and they both do well at Michigan. Elliott is the driver I'd prefer at Pocono.

I'd say it's a tossup. I wouldn't change yet if you are charged for a trade. I'd keep Elliott and reevaluate race by race. If you have him going into Pocono, I'd keep him thorugh both Pocono races.

Just my opinion though. But then I'm a punk rookie so you never know, :D

I see now that Jason Burdett is going to be DJ's car chief . That is good news I think. Jason is familiar with both DJ and RYR.

He's worked with some very successful programs in the past. He was with DJ in 1999, a fairly successufl year. He was with the #24 team in 2001, another fairly successful campaign. And he was car chief for the #48 last year, not too shabby.

Dino...i've had Bill on my fantasy teams for 3 years now, stuck with him through thick and thin. I really think that team will win again soon, not just because he is my favorite driver either, but because they have shown a lot of good signs, unfortunate problems have plagued them. Jarret will need time to adjust to the new changes on his team, i look for him to be productive again towards the last quarter of the season.
