Dale Jr gets one right.

I'd have to agree, NASCAR does need some more short tracks in it's schedule. The 1.5 mile Tri-oval tracks probably have some of the most boring racing out there.

If you try hard enough you can put as many seats as you want at a short track.

I agree with Joonyer too! And there was a time when getting tickets to the Saturday night race at Bristol was as hard as getting tickets to see the Packers at Lambeau Field.

Well duh Jr wants more short tracks, he runs over everyone at them :XXROFL: he said that if they had more he'd have a rep for that. But I do agree more short tracks would be awesome

I had to laugh when Joonyer said that he would get a reputation as a Dirty Driver if there were more short tracks. Gotta love it!

Yea that was pretty funny. I wonder how long that'd last. Joonyer drives dirty, driver comes back and slams him into the wall, Joonyer *****es about it.

That's pretty much how it'd play out if Joonyer ever tries to "drive dirty".

I agree with Jr. but until more short tracks are opened/built or resurrected NA$CAR should schedule more road courses.

Lets see, there's tracks out there......no your not going to be able to pack in 50-60k fans.

Rockingham
Myrtle Beach
South Georgia Motorsports Park
Greenville-Pickens
(They already test at all three of those so they would know how to get there)

North Wilksborough
Langley Speedway
South Boston
Lanier Speedway
Caraway Speedway
I-70
Walt Disney World ( tracks still there stands to I think )
Winchester
Wall Speedway
Five Flags Speedway
USA Speedway

Most of those tracks are still active with the exception of Disney which last I heard Petty Experiance was still using and USA Speedway ( near Tampa Fl 3/4 mile hi bank ) which is just sitting there waiting on a promotor.

I thought USA was gonna become a sub division or something?

Maybe we all should keep an eye on Alabama Motorsports Park, which is scheduled to open in 2012. Dale Jr. used to be affiliated with the creation of this track, and at one time, it was going to be called Dale Earnhardt Speedway, or something like that. Here's a little info from Wiki:

The seating capacity of the oval is expected to be around 70,000 permanent seats with the ability to expand to 125,000.

I don't know the length of the track, but with that many seats, it could surely accommodate a NASCAR Cup race - when and if it opens, that is. I've heard it's taken quite some time to get the project lifted off the ground.

I'd like to see a night Iowa Cup race on the schedule, as well. I really like that track. It reminds me of a mini-Talladega, minus the plates, of course.

The oval track has been closed since 2008 the dragstrip and Mud drag are still operating. The property is still owned by USA International Speedway Holdings LLC and their still trying to get the county to rezone the rest of the property for med industrial/business park space so they can rebuild capitol and someday reopen the track.
The county has basicly been trying to take the property and has been unwilling to support the track. Um "Unofficially" a couple county officials own the neighboring industrial property and need room to expand their trucking company

South Boston would be a damn entertaining race.

Yeah it would :D

Lanier would be another great short track venue for the Cup cars one of the benifits is that its located directly across the road from Road Atlanta which might lend facilties/parking also Atlanta dragway is just down the road so the area is used to racing events.

But we should listen to fans like kkfan who think the megatracks are awesome. NASCAR is. :(

Hey hey hey I have never ever said that I said restrictor plate tracks are fine, you've clearly never seen me complain about Caliornia. Why must everyone use me as an example for everything.

See KK's not like that at all.....I'm the one that dislikes California and Loves the restrictor plate tracks :D

Um... they don't use restrictor plates at CA. Just saying...

Andy said I only like mega tracks, I was correcting him by saying that while I like restrictor plate tracks I do not like tracks like California.

OK cool, now we are as clear as mud. This has been a test of the emergency broadcasting system, we now return you to your regularly scheduled program. :D

In other news:
I stand before you to sit behind you
To tell you something I know nothing about
Pull up a chair, sit on the floor
Admission is free, pay at the door. :D

Please consult the kk to english dictionary;)

Plate racing SUCKS and always has, IMO. Fontucky and Michigan make for tedious 500 mile races for the fans. But I'm willing to bet that the drivers ain't bored- since they know full well that they are doing in excess of 200 MPH entering Turn One.

I really wish that Roger Penske would have built Bristol West instead of Brooklyn West...

I would love to see the tracks FlFlash posted getting cup dates, but six letters spell out the impossibility.

ISC & SMI

ISC has 19 cup events of the 36 events.
SMI has 11 of the 36 events.

Their shareholders and the cook cutters mean more than holding the best races at the best tracks. They have invested to much in the crap tracks to turn back now.

I wish it wasn't the case but it is, the two vultures will never relinquish their control. They will continue to buy up the good tracks and accumulate more dates.

Their a monopoly that should be forced into breaking up.

I wish they could take it down to one visit to each of the current venues each season. That would certainly open up the schedule to some new short tracks, road courses or where ever the heck else they'd want to run. I could care less who owns them or how many they own as long as the infrastructure is there to support the crowd. I like each of the tracks that are currently on the schedule. I just think that the season is 1.5 mile heavy.

I could care less who owns them or how many they own...

I understand that, and I want promoters to be profitable, nor am I sweating over how much the France's, Penske, or Bruton Smith earns. But the folks that award the dates, own many of the tracks, and have an obvious conflict of interest.

Simply put if anybody aside from ISC were to upgrade an existing track with all of the amenities, and infrastructure needed their still not getting a date. It is a closed system.

Existing as a monopoly allows one to be less than creative, hence we are saturated with the 1.5 mile cook cutters. They simply don't feel a need for self improvement after the pool of competing promoters has been eliminated. I am sure the bean counters will find maximum seating capacity and new markets wonderfully attractive.

But it as short sighted as those that demand quarterly profits regardless of the damaging long term effects. It serves Nascar well, but not necessarily stock car racing to well. Boring races on boring tracks takes it toll, losing the local crowd usually happens after the damage is done.
A bad race is a bad 4 hour Nascar TV commercial. A good race is a good Nascar TV commercial.

It would be be better to have races at the tracks with the best races. If the product is good enough, the infrastructure should follow, due to the product being the absolute best. Plus there are enough good short tracks to cherry pick the best ones with room to build the needed infrastructure .

But again with the closed system, only a fool would invest the millions needed for an almost certain rejection.
