What could be the hottest collectable car of the summer, if not the entire 2010 season? Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 3 Wrangler Chevrolet.
If arrangements go as planned, Earnhardt will run the No. 3 Wrangler Chevrolet for JR Motorsports at Daytona International Speedway in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race on July 2.

Sources have told FOXSports.com that Earnhardt will revive his father's famous No. 3 in a collaborative effort initiated by JR Motorsports with Richard Childress Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc. A formal announcement is expected on April 29.

According to team sources, a Hendrick Motorsports engine will power the car.

Earnhardt Jr. currently has a personal services contract with Wrangler, continuing a family legacy between the brands. Wrangler first sponsored his father for the final race of his 1980 Cup championship season and the following year with Rod Osterlund for the first 16 races.

After four races with James Stacy, who bought the team from Osterlund, Earnhardt and Wrangler moved to Richard Childress Racing and the No. 3 Pontiac for the remainder of 1981. Despite a two-year separation when Earnhardt campaigned in the Wrangler Ford for Bud Moore, he returned to RCR in 1984 and Wrangler remained the primary sponsor until the end of the 1987 season — a span that included two more Cup championships. GM Goodwrench took over the car in 1988 and Earnhardt switched to a black car.

Earnhardt also drove a Wrangler-sponsored car in the Busch Series (now Nationwide Series) in 16 races, earning three wins (1982 in Daytona, 1983 in Charlotte and 1985 in Rockinhgham). Earnhardt Jr. drove a Wrangler paint scheme twice in 1997 in Busch competition.

Well, I guess that is one way to give the diecast and t-shirt sales a boost.

Does this set the scene for Junior to be in a #3 RCR car in Cup soon?

Not really -- Dale has driven a 3 car for RC before in the series.

Called my friend in Montana, she promptly took July 2 off from work. LOL
I don't blame her. I think it will be a great thing for Jr to drive the 3 car.

Boggity Boggity Boggity Lets Go Tweeting

Apparently Dale Jr. and company weren't all that happy with DW breaking the #3 news.....

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was not amused that Darrell Waltrip had broken The Story.

Earnhardt plans to race a No. 3 Wrangler-sponsored Chevrolet in the Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway this summer. Waltrip apparently wasn't supposed to share word of that too widely, but he did.

To hear Junior tell it, the leak has dulled – if not ruined – any anticipated impact of a news conference scheduled for Thursday about the paint job, the number and related marketing efforts.

Earnhardt’s late father, Dale Earnhardt, drove a car sponsored by Wrangler from the last race of 1980 through the end of the 1987 season.

“DW sort of blew the lid off of it," Junior said. "On Twitter, nonetheless. So that kind of ruined our announcement."

“It’s unfortunate that DW uncovered that and the way it went down because we didn’t want to have to announce it like this.”

The coming media event, featuring someone from Richard Childress Racing and Teresa Earnhardt, is still expected to happen.

I guess with a nickname like 'Jaws' you can't expect much different.

Junior ran races at Daytona already in a Nabisco O-R-E-O car, and then in a Nilla Wafer car if I am not mistaken.
Pretty cool though to see a 3 Wrangler car. Seems like Senior ran a 3 Wrangler paint scheme in the Winston allstar race.
Special paint schemes were not always good to Dale Sr.

Geez I really hope Jr has a decent finish with the car, it looks really good. When I get home on leave i'm gonna have to run Jr Motorsports & get my pic next to it.
