The efforts to sign #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. to a NASCAR driving contract for 2008 and beyond has reached a critical point, and the top two teams on Earnhardt’s list are the Chevrolet teams owned by Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick, according to men familiar with the negotiations. Earnhardt today is leaning toward a deal with Hendrick [NOTE: where would Earnhardt go? HMS has four Cup teams and all three drivers signed for a couple more years, unless some sort of deal with Haas CNC Racing or Ginn Racing would be worked out], largely because of Hendrick’s very strong engine program, sources here said yesterday. Earnhardt and veteran crew chief Tony Eury Jr., his cousin and close confidante as well as the man who has led him to many of his 17 Cup victories, have talked with both the Hendrick and Childress camps in recent weeks about the positives and negatives each team owner would have to offer, sources said yesterday. And Eury will have a major voice in the decision, because Earnhardt’s primary goal now, at age 32, is to win a championship.(Winston Salem Journal)(5-9-2007)

He would brake a contract with one of his drivers just for JR.
 
Maybe Rick comes off the hip and buys Haas or Gin or someone in co-opetition with Lil'E and gives Lil'E operational control. It could be a subsidiary of HMS. C'mon Rick make the deal. Money don't mean nothing to you any more. Take control of NASCAR and let Junyer Nation go insane.

Maybe when JR drove the 5 car, it was more then just a helping hand.

JR and Jeff Gordon on the same team......this could get good.
 
I,too, would like to see him go to Hendrick. If for no other reason than to find out just how good of a driver he really is.

When he was winning RP races, some say it's was due to the best gear, when he's not doing so good it's usually poor cars and the wrong people around him.

Let him drive best equipment/teams in Nascar and if he's as good as the hype, it should be a lock.
 
Oh boy!

I would accept him as one the Hendrick drivers. He would have a much better chance of winning, driving one of their cars. HOWEVER!, I'd much rather have him in the competition! I love it when the Hendrick cars run circles over the golden boy! The fans favorite.. finishing in the bottom 10!
One thing for sure...... He would learn something driving with the 24, 48 and 5 as team mates.

I usually don't get involved in this kind of stuff until it happens.

But, I could certainly see Rick Hendrick working out a severence package with young Mr Mears to create a spot for Junior.

It would be one heck of an interesting relationship if he does go to HMS. Jr's fans are generally the most vocal in their hatred for Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. How would they respond to them being new teammates?
