Danica thinks pretty and sexy are two different things

If your teenage daughter gets dressed up do you tell her she's Sexy or Pretty? There's a significant difference in my opinion.
 
It'll be a great day when the media & this board can start to look at her as another driver and get over all of the stupid questions and remarks. Just sayin.

It would help if she acted like another driver and didnt try to "sex" it up by doing GoDaddy commercials or posing for Maxim.

My wife wanted to pull for her, but she said she can't because whats she's done actually is a detriment to women, she'd rather watch a woman race that's earned their keep and doesn't feel that Danica has.

Neither does Paul Menard, neither one of those guys get the attention that Danica does though. For the attention that she gets, you'd think she would have won multiple IRL races and championships.

Hey, if people want to get all stupid because she's a woman, why shouldn't she take advantage of it? She gets the big sponsor...and the last laugh. As long as she keeps driving and progressing the way she has, I have no problem with her being in NASCAR. Some drivers are just jealous of her popularity, but Carl has used his looks and body to gain popularity. Kasey Kahne makes a good living off of cougars. Many drivers get their shot because of Daddy, and that's not just Paul Menard.

It's what someone does on the track with that opportunity, and so far Danica is doing just fine, IMO. At the same time, it's OK to have fun with the side show.

How is she doing just fine? She won one race in 6 years in the IRL....

She gets more exposure than Marco Andretti who's won 2 races and his last name is Andretti.

Carl Edwards didnt get where he did by taking his shirt off for a magazine, he got where he did by driving.

Even with all of the BS we'll have to go thru I'm Happy Danica has joined NASCAR and I beleive it's all worth it.
It's been over 10 years since I've seen more NASCAR coverage and referances on local TV, newspapers and radio.
That coverage required the death of Dale Earnhardt.
So chuck it up and live with it.....it's good for us!

IRL? Where, how and why does that come into this conversation?

1) What is she doing right? Comes in part time and improves week after week.
2) Doesn't come in with the typical open wheel attitude of 'this is easy'.
3) Hasn't caused wrecks.
4) Keeps her popularity in perspective.

I'm not a Danica fan, but that doesn't mean I should hold her to a different standard than the rest of the drivers.

I'm not either and I don't hold her to a different standard as other drivers, I think others feel that way though. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think she has earned the spotlight like a lot of other drivers have.

Unlike JR, Carl before this year, Menard, Trevor Bayne to this day, etc, etc.

Popularity has always been a key factor of success in this sport. Even the black hats need some fans to make it work. Fans decide what makes a driver popular, and it isn't by the numbers. If it were, JJ would be #1 in popularity year after year.

All of this is pretty self evident, IMO. You either get it or you don't.

Face it sex sells. You don't see Rosie O'Donuts or Roseann modeling Victoria Secrets stuff or
John Goodman in jockey shorts commercials.

I agree with this, but it is the sponsors that put the pressure on Danica to market herself like this. It takes two to tango, unfortunately in this sponsor driven sport, GoDaddy wants to market her that way. If she were to say no to that do you think GoDaddy would stick with her? It would be nice to see a woman be able to make it at the highest tier of Nascar racing without having to market herself as a sex symbol, but the way things are in this world, I don't see that happening. If Danica can win races on her ability as a driver perhaps some of this will dissipate, but most likely she will always be percieved some what as sex symbol first, driver second. I hope she can turn this the other way, it would be a major positive if she could.

sigh......she didnt win in the last series she was in. I'm trying to judge her performance based on stuff outside of Nascar aswell. I'll give her credit when she wins, but to me, her only winning 1 race in six years in the Indy Racing League is a big deal, considering the attention that she gets.
