As bits and pieces of the 2014 Cup schedule is released by the tracks, it was mentioned on Twitter by a number of NASCAR media members the Darlington Cup date has been moved to April. Kansas will get the Mother's Day weekend date (night race). If Darlington was to be moved, I don't understand in moving it to April and not move it back to Labor Day weekend.

Sounds like they are screwing them over big time.

Thatd be good. Then they're already there for champions week. I like that track more than Homestead anyway... rumour is Phoenix will be the final race of 2014... Bleh  That's a dumb idea if I ever heard one.
What!!! Yeh that makes no sense

Yeah I heard Homestead is losing its date and Phoenix will move to the final race.. the final race should be Bristol! Now that would make for some dramatic championship finishes.
Vegas makes the most sense because they have banquet there, this could all be conjecture that has no substance, we will just have to see when it is official.

Did they really need to throw Goodyear and all of the teams another curveball with moving a Kansas date a month out and into the night?

Sounds like NASCAR did this to get a night race at Kansas, not to screw Darlington. Average night time temperatures in Kansas in April are in the mid-40s whereas, in mid-May, they're in the upper-50s or low-60s. Average temperatures in Darlington in the middle of April are in the mid-50s to low-60s.

Still, a dumb move in my opinion. The Darlington race date was working, no need to fix what ain't broke. This whole thing with Kansas' second date sounds like Fontana all over again.

Agreed, that's stupid. Switch it with Atlanta, put Atlanta at the beginning of the season and put Vegas in the chase.. then give Kansas mothers day.

Why move Atlanta? Labor Day Weekend is working great for them. Spring race in Atlanta was a terrible date and NASCAR finally realized it. Weather is wacky and unpredictable (one race was delayed an entire week because of a blizzard). Don't fix what ain't broke.

Bristol and Martinsville have been extremely lucky with their race day weather as is. Last fall, Martinsville was about a few hours away from hosting the finale in 20-something degree weather.

I was there. The next day there was two feet of snow northwest about two hours. We drove the storm out.

At Bristol I've had my water lines freeze many times and have seen snow several times.

Yep, Hurricane Sandy. It started raining literally the very second I got on 58.
