I still don't know how those numbers work.

If ya got a specific question someone hereabouts can likely help 'splain some of it.:)

What does 12-1 mean?  Or 100-1?

12-1 means you bet a dollar and if you win you get 12
100-1 means same but you get 100.:)

Just a way the odds makers hedge the bets.......a 100-1 odd is the odds maker is pretty sure you are not going to win......the 12-1 odd shows he not quite so sure.:)

Help you mustang?

Ya thanks. I have always wondered that but could never get an answer.

What the ratios mean is that the odds makers have decided that that driver, lets say JJ at 12-1, has one chance in 12 of winning the race. If ya bet one dollar on JJ to win and he does, then you would collect 12 dollars. If ya bet $2 then you would collect $24.

If ya bet one dollar on Casey Atwood to win at 100 - 1 and he won. Once everyone recovered, the bookie would pay $100. If ya bet $5 he would pay ya $500. and so on.

Now what happens to make the odds change as race day nears, is who people are betting their money on. If the oddsmakers see that suddenly Casey is getting a whole pile of money bet on him, they knwo if he should win they could never pay out all the bucks, so they will drop the odds from 100 - 1 to maybe say 70 -1 or some such. No matter what the odds are when you place your bet, the payout is based on the last odds posted prior to the race.

That deal works the other way to, if at 7-1 no one is betting on Tony to win, the oddsmaker will raise the odds to maybe say 10 - 1 to get money on him as well. The oddsmakers will always come out ahead if the money is spread among a bunch of drivers, cause only one will win.

Hope I didn't confuse ya more!:)

20:1 on Busch is a good play. He led 74 laps in this race last year before encountering mechanical problems and he's been a major player in nearly every race this year.
