Tony saved his motor. ;) Rusty just wants a pole, win, anything!

Look at the provisionals. What a surprise seeing Kyle Petty there.

Could someone please explain.......If there is ONLY 43 cars in the field, WHY are the last 7 drivers charged with provisionals???????? ALL of the cars can make the race on time.   :(

They amended the rules early last season, so that if 43 (or fewer) cars show up for a race, nobody is charged a provisional. It makes sense.

because thats how the rules work, only top 36 are in on time

Thats how they will set the back 7 but they will not get charged for using it!
What about JB's MBV/2 team mate Jerry with a 3rd starting spot!! Congrats to Jerry!! He has ran very good all year but just sems unable to bring the car home. I hope he can this week!!

ALRIGHT JERRY! Way to show what you are made of. Everybody better watch out because the #01 Pontiac is headed for victroy lane.

Then why are they listed as "provisional"????
This is a little confusing, because the words get deceptive.

The cars starting in postion 37 thru 43 are listed as provisional starters because those postions, by the rules, are always provisional starting postions. The cars in those spots are arranged not by their qualifying speed, but rather in order of their current standings in the owner points. Hence they are "provisional" starters.

Being "charged" for a provisional start is different issue. Each team starts the season with 4 provisional starts. Another provisional credit is awarded for every 8 qualifying attempts. If a team uses up its allotted "bank" of provisionals, it must earn another before it can be granted a provisional start.

However, the rules are set that if there are only 43 cars attempting the race, none of the teams who use a provisional starting position is actually "charged" one from its bank of allowances. Also if a team is in the top 25 in owner points standing, it is not charged a provisional either, no matter how many cars attempt the race.

Hopefully this helps...
