You could be onto something...we are on a walking route and they get a treat when they are out.
Now you, as well as your dogs, know our secret. If I run out of treats, I might get my ankles chewed. But I love all of my dogs, even the ones that want to eat me for lunch. They just refuse to get to know me.

glad to know some, hopefully most, post offices approve of carriers giving treats to dogs. when we lived in springfield, ma our lady carrier was transferred to another route for giving treats to dogs, ours included. our dog loved her and waited for her every day. <g> guess the post office thought she took too long delivering the mail.

But I wonder if this wasn't the result of one of your nighbors complaining about it.

Actually, they don't approve. Most of the time it just slips by, but if some high falutin' supervisor who wants to make a name for himself/herself sees you doing it, you are in for some trouble. I never admit that I do it and if they see treats in my vehicle, I just tell them that they are for my own dogs and I forgot to leave them at home. :)

don't think so vadirt, at least not the neighbors we knew. everyone seemed to like her.
I buy my post lady 2 bags of treats a year and clip them on my mailbox.
our pup gave the carrier paw signed christmas card's and a small token of appreciation. ;)

There are several people/dogs on my route that supply me with treats now and then. Since we are talking about this, I feel I must share this with you. It's a Christmas card I received this past Christmas from a family and included was a special pie. Let me set this up first. This family has a dog named Mark and Mark just doesn't like mailmen. I have met face to face with Mark on several occasions, but not from the fault of the owners. Mark has in fact bitten another carrier, but I am not afraid of him and know how to handle him. He may not like me, but I do think that he respects me because he has had his chances. So, now that you have a little history on Mark, let me quote what was written on the card. The writing on the card is pretty bad, but when you read what it said, you'll know why. Here goes...

Dear Mailman,

Thanks for being a good mailman for us for so long. I realize that I have behaved badly, but as you can see from this card I'm trying to get in touch with my gentler, feline side. I'm also in an anger management class, and this card is part of my therapy. I also got my owners to make you this pie.

I'll try to behave the next time I see you, but I can't make any promises. (I've got issues...I did come from the pound)

Merry Christmas
Mark the dog

I am keeping this card for ever. I laughed so hard when I read it. The people are very nice and do everything they can to help control Mark, but I guess he's just another "pound hound".

very funny buck. <g> wonder if a book has been written by a mailman and his encounters with dogs (or any animal) over the years? something to think about.
